Dear Merc Gurus and Forum specialists,
My C180 COUPE engine 271 is misfiring on cylinder 3 with error code P0303 and behaving rougly on idle. Had Spark Plug changed and Ignition coils on cylinder 3 but it only became bit better to what it was. I took it to garage yesterday for diagnosis with P0303 including some other code TWC etc…
Anyways they did compression test and it was Cylinder 1 = 200 Cylinder 2 = 200 Cylinder 3 = 150 Cylinder 4 = 200. So they said its low on compression.
I bought this car one year back and had same problem on cylinder 3 so got it fixed by paying 2000 pounds for taking off cylinder head and scratching carbon putting valves etc...and its back again. So I took it to the mechanic who fixed it and he is saying that pressure 150 on cylinder 3 is not a big difference that it will result in misfire. He said he wants to do Cylinder Leakage test and lots of other bull**** (excuse my language I am just fed up) which just went over my head. This mechanic ripped me off last time by quoting 800 pounds for taking off cylinder head and repairing it and I ended up paying 2000 pounds to get my car back.
Any quick fix ????
Any suggestions what shall I do??? I don’t want to pay same money again to get it fixed. No one will buy it with engine light On and Its ethically not right either, though i was given this car in same state by a lady who probably turned off engine light and managed to sale it to me for 6500 pounds . It was my first car right after I passed my license, probably biggest mistake of my life. Anyways I have learned my lesson but please if anyone could give any suggestion to get this situation a bit better.
I posted a thread named "C180 Misfire mystery Please help" few days back. So if you wanna refer to that here is link for detailed description of car behaviour if you are interested.
