C180 problems

Hey was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on a 52 plate C180 auto I just bought? It's a great car to drive but got some issues with it and can't seem to find out the problem. I even took it down to a Merc garage who spent hours checking it and charged me lots of money but still couldn't find the problem!!!

The problems I still find are the battery/alternator light occasionally lights up and is stored in the memory but next time I drive it the malfunction is completely gone and not even in the memory. A new alternator was put in last year and battery looks fine.

Also when I stop and am stationary and foot on the brake the car feels like it's shunting forward a bit. But this seems to only happen during the first few miles. When the car is completley warmed up it seems fine.

And finally when I step on and off the accelerator I can hear a scraping or electronic noise. I'm not sure which??

If anyone can help that would be awesome! Many thanks in advance!

Where abouts in the country are you?

sounds like a normal automatic to me

sounds normal to you does it??

Sorry, was that a rhetorical question?

Automatics do not have a clutch, but a torque converter instead:

When you say the car is shunting forwards........can you give more detail?
The reason why it may change between cold engine and warm engine could be due to engine idle speed.........ie. higher when cold to warm the car up faster, then reduces as engine becomes warm.

I've heard that you can ask a mechanic to reduce the engine idle speed if it bothers you. But as it goes away once the engine is warm I personally would not bother.

Where about are you......there may be a local garage someone can recommend?

the rev meter is normal at idling but then it feels like the car is losing power and wants to stall but then gets back to normal quickly after

Is the engine otherwise smooth whilst accelerating through all the gears?

i would say it's quite smooth yeah
