Been given a brand new C180 (750Km on the clock) in Amsterdam. Surprising amount of options for a rental car... Dynamic (adjustable) suspension, Distronic, AMG trim, LCD dash, COMAND (MBUX 6?), this is what I spotted so far. When I find the VIN I'll check the full spec.... however, I am just wondering if the car rental company ticked all these options, or do European cars come with higher spec as standard?

More likely the rental company said "we'll take 2000 class D cars at X euros each, send us what you've got". Better to flog it off cheap and recover the manufacturing cost than have the car sat in storage on an airfield somewhere..

Cheers,

Gaz

2000!!

Number picked at random. The big rental companies buy cars by the field full.

I thought that they rented them?

Probably, that makes sense. My point was that they don't care what spec they get, I've had rentals that are quite well knitted out and others in complete poverty spec.

OK, does anyone know where the VIN is on the W205... it's not on the windscreen, not in the engine bay, not on the door sill... perhpas under the carpet on the driver's side?

Nearside through the windscreen. under wiper blade.

European cars don't seem to have that.... the little 'window' is there, but it's empty.

Interesting... I was lucky enough drive a demo AMG GTR back in April that didn't have a VIN number there, and was told it was pre production press vehicle and would be destroyed after 6 months!!!

Found the VIN after looking it up in the owner's manual (it's 'FIN' in Dutch)... it is on a plaque on the door sill on the RH (passenger) side... I was expecting it to be on the door sill on the 'driver's side'... duh!
