C180 starting problems

Hi guys,

Could anyone help me please? My C180 is struggling to start just now although the battery is brand new. The engine seems to cough and splutter (some back fire as well) during starting. Any ideas? I've checked the spark plugs and cleaned them to see if this would help, but no better.

Would it be a fuel filter issue?

Yes it's absolutely fine when it's warm. It just coughs and splutters and sometimes backfires when I'm trying to start it from cold. Once it's warm, if I stop, leave it for a while it starts perfectly. From cold, once I actually get it going, you put your foot on the accelerator and seems to splutter for a bit.
