Hi from a previous post yesterday I have come to the gloomy conclusion that the chain is going to have to be changed.
Could anyone give me some detailed directions on the replacement procedure. I am a proficient home mechanic and known i will be upto it with a few helpful pointers.
Thanks in advance for any replies
    Alex

Right I have got the new chain on and in exactly the same position as it came off however can someone look at my marks and tell me if they are ok?
I think that the exhaust cam may be a tooth off!
It all turns freely I haven't tried jumping the exh cam back a tooth.
These photos are before I replaced the chain.
    What do you think?

Yes, it does look like the exhaust cam is out - advanced a tooth seemingly.

Pointless without a new inlet cam sprocket though, isn't it?

Also stupidly I forgot to see what the sag in the new chain was like! Do you think this one was caught just in time?

I did think the sprockets looked in bad shape at all!
Please correct me if I am wrong.
I know they may be a little worn.
The car has only done 50k

    Sorry!

Getting my threads mixed up again, we had one with major tooth decay - not yours thankfully - they do look OK in the pics.

Did you get to the tensioner OK?

That was a section of the process that I am trying to forget . The picture of the replacement notes stated" remove alternator. Didn't really get me prepared for what was to come to actually remove it. My heart stopping moment was when the core plug dropped into the hole when I was trying to get to the tensioner! Am just very lucky I could get to it!
When re tensioning I take it I just tighten it right up and the tensioner does the rest?

That is pretty much it, no resetting on this one, 40nm torque.

    Enjoy.

Do you thinking need to retard the exhaust cam a tooth?

On the basis of what I can see in your pictures - yes.

The rule of thumb is that the markings can seem slightly retarded, but never advanced. Your exhaust cam appears to be advanced.
