I paid £115 for the chain and £50 something for the tensioner. Have got to get a new core plug bur am sure they can't be too much.
Based on the cam being one tooth advanced I am hoping this will solve my cam hall sensor problem!
I have only ever seen a chain slip on a diesel that stalled and rolled back on a hill once!
And seeing as how this is an auto I am gob smacked I could have jumped.
Have you see one jump forward a tooth before ?

Is it a manual box?

Have known it happen when people park in forward gear with vehicle facing uphill before.

No its an auto! thats why I am so surprised

Be-careful fitting the alternator back on. It will go on two ways.

Thanks for the tip. I should be putting it all back together tonight now that I have the core plug . Will let you know how I get on.

doing well yes i have seen a chain do this only last month and the chain looked as bad as your one

except he also broke a valve but you caught yours just in time i would say

fingers crossed your sorted and saved a nice few pounds on labour

Hi well I have finished the job!
No engine light and all running sweet.
The only thing I will say is that I can hear a light tappeting noise from the rear underneath section of the engine bay.
This can only be heard from the the side of the car .
Could this be a exhaust gasket or something more sinister?
At first there was a tapping noise from the front of the engine so I change the cam hall sensor and that went away!
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers
Alex

not sure what the noise is can you record it maybe
