Dear forum,

I had to call the RAC out today about my December 2003 C180 Automatic (W203 type). The patrolman plugged his laptop into the car and it came back with an error code of misfire on cylinder 1 due to ignition coil failure. I took off the coil cover and the coils are all in a line from front to back of the car. Can someone tell me in which position is cylinder 1 ? Is it the coil closest to the road or is it the coil closest to the driver ?

Many thanks,

Mark.

the banks are usually numbered on the block - i think 1 is the first on the left hand side? cant remember if you need to remove the coilpack...

best bet to check under daylight and you should see them clearly numbered.

I think I am right in saying that Number one cylinder is always at the rad end of an engine (in line) and front left on a Vee engine. (front left as you stand at the front and look towards the windscreen)

Number one is definately at the front ie fan end of the engine on a DC inline four.

Thx

Thx guys.
