Alan,

Check for possible vaccum leaks, the plastic hoses and the rubber fittings do tend to get brittle and crack throughout the years.

Do you have any chance to read the fault codes?

ive had a quick look over the hoses and pipes etc and couldnt see any thing too amiss, i have managed to get it started but the revs fluctuate from bout 850 down to about 300 and the brink of stalling,

thats what i am about to try taking it off and giving it a good clean, will get back to ya, thanks for the advice

right update time! have clean out the throttle body was quite dirty, have gone through the vac pipes again and it now runs but idles at about 1300rpm!! time to un adjust the throttle cable me thinks!! as it now idles quite smoothly but has a bit of a tendency to shoot off when put into gear !!

Can still be a faulty ETA... try to re-learn the closed position on the ETA. I think it goes like this: put the engine at normal working temp; turn off engine; turn ignition on for 90 seconds; start engine.
