C180K Blue Efficiency Estate - buy or not to buy?

I'm seriously considering buying latest 'Blue Efficiency' C class Estate with all the 'goodies' and dealer assures me C180 has plenty of power for the size of the car. Its purely for low mileage (<12k annually) social use, however, my thoughts are that for the same money say without 'Comand' option, I could actually get 220CDI 'Blue Efficiency' and have no concerns about power and achieve greater mpg and better residuals. Are there any C180 owners with views on this model.

Hi, and welcome.

Am not a C Class owner, but here is my view. I think the 1.6 litre C180K is actually quite a nice package with Automatic and Sports trim. 156bhp should propel it along quite nicely and return a decent mpg, have you driven it? To be honest I wouldn't bother with COMAND and save yourself some money. COMAND will not be expected in that car come resale and you will not get your money back. I would spec the 18" AMG alloys and parktronic. There are some decent MB PCP deals available on the C180K Blue Efficiency, but not on the C220CDI (non BE). There are also some cracking Personal Contract Hire deals on the C180K BE estate.

Hi for what its worth i drove a c180 as you describe as a courtesy car for a six weeks, really nice looking in my opinion but it seemed uneconomical averaged 30 mpg, i would have thought it should have given more ( i drove very sensibly) i wonder if a bigger engine might give more mpg for the given weight ,i drive a c270 its excellent, giving me 45 mpg hope this helps

What kind of driving are your figures based on ? If it's town driving I'd say that is pretty acceptable.

I would go for the bigger engined car every time. Engine less stressed and MPG in real world driving probably better or very similar. Don't go by the manufacturers published figures- remember they necessarily represent a very controlled set of driving conditions only- which may bear no resemblance to the way you drive or road conditions you experience.

I would go for the bigger engined car, which as a blue efficiency, will probably end up being more efficient & less tax than smaller one! It will be better suited to an estate, especially if you intend to load it up regularly too

it was a mix of mostly 50 mile trips on dual carriageways and a little town driving, i did feel that the car suffered a little on power and thought that a bigger engine would possibly have helped, as i say now my c270 does the same work and its giving a really good return along with the extra power when/if needed, i drove the c180BE sport with the amg alloys etc, and it was an auto i really liked the look but i felt if it were my money a bigger engine would be needed ,just my opinion, i am now driving Mercedes again after a long time in the BMW fold and i do feel much happier with the whole driving experience and also the cost of parts is so much more reasonable looking forward to a long happy re aquantaince

250 CGi would be better.

It there's unused power, at least it's available. If you run out of power, you are out of options.

156 hp not enough for an estate.

The OP is clearly not interested in responses! He has probably gone and bought a Beemer!

Maybe the OP will log on about the same time tonight, as they only posted yesterday? Patience!

Sorry, :thumb: I know patience is a virtue but if it was me I would have been looking regularly to see if there was a response! :D

No need to say sorry, just some folks may only get to the internet once a day, if that. You may be right (they might not be back) but I wouldn't want that to be because they're not welcome.

He's a first timer. There is no need to scrape and bow each time you get a response. If it was me I'd have read what you have said and think "b******s to them".:rolleyes:

Still waiting, Looks like Mr Nimrod was a 1 post wonder!

The thread should however still run, there may be other would be forum members/current forum members debating purchasing what is probably going to be a high selling model in the 204 range. Even if the OP doesn't come back, the thread will still have value for anyone looking for a W204 estate.

Am I right in thinking the 1600cc Turbo engine is new, bugs may crop up etc. A more proven 180k with the supercharged 1800cc engine would give me more confidence. In saying that, I'd want the 200 or 220cdi car over either of those any time. Much better MPG, more torque and resale values mean these are the engines to have in a C class.

Hi ,I have just ordered a 250cdi blue efficiency estate in the sports trim ,is the model a S204 ? ,I havent found much info on the new 250 biturbo engine ,thanks in advance

Model is a W204, if it is the C Class 250cdi. Congrats, supposed to be a good engine, is it auto? and whats the full spec?

Hi there, if its the estate then yet, your car is the S204, from the W204 family - the 's' doesn't get used much to signify the estate model range, however I believe it is the official 'title' from MB

Hi Peterg .its scooba from e90post. I am quietly confidant i can get my wife to have the s204 ,I have talked her round from the JCW (i think)..I want her E90 if it goes to plan i will get the wheels refurbished a proper detail and a map the 325 has only done 6700 miles ,

I have been using it most days since i sold the GTI to red335 of the bmw forum ,I really like it and with a map on it think it will be perfect for my daily drive .

TBH she wants the practical car so when she nips out to her mums she can take the dogs with her,The little one is slowly destroying everything he gets his paws on while left unsupervised .

Two beagles Hector and Snoop
