I have just purchased a 2003 C200 and there is a ticking noise for about 2 minutes after startup and I believe it is coming from the left hand side footwell air conditioning flap .
I understand this is a common fault I have a quote for $2000 to fix it.

My question is does this problem effect the efficiency of the airconditioner or the heater ?
As the cost to fix it is very high.
Regards
Neville

The heater flaps are obviously all behind the dash. For most only certain sections of the dash need to be removed but there is one or two which require total removal. Even when certain sections need removing it can still be quite time consuming hence the high repair bills. It will either be failed stepper motors or broken linkages.
Depending on which flap is causing a problem, the air flow will not be directed through that particular flap correctly/ effiiciently.
Apart from that heater/ ac output is not affected

Mine has been doing it for the last 6 years, no easy fix, fix cost is lots, just ignore it, as it wont get better and it wont do any damage.

If you get to it to unplug it you may aswell replac it as above.
If its the footwell flap motor it's one of the easiest to replace & most common for going faulty, we did a few last year
Motors last year were around £120 from dealer & it's about 2 -3 hours to replace & set up correctly

It may only be the linkage that is faulty, making it a really cheap job, if it is easily accessible.
