hi all,i desperatly need help my 1996 c200 is misfiring and it is realy getting me down:mad: can anyone help with diagnosis please:confused:

Is it misfiring when in Park and when changing gears up and down?

no its a manual mate and it is constantly misfiring like running on 3 cylinders have changed coil?

ignition probs

Probably ignition. could be plugs, plug leads, ignition coils, wiring, ECU. The coils (ONE PER 2 PLUGS) are known to fail on these MODELS as is the wiring loom. they are located below the inlet manifold. If left they can blow the ECU! Replace both even if only one is gone. thats my GUESS and its only a guess!!!

thanks tried most of them my fear is the ecu , if so does enyone know where to get one cheers jay.

It could always be on the fuel side.

Check the spark output with a cheap testing tool and if that's ok go for the injectors or valves.
Perform a compression test and/or leakdown.

i would try changing the ht leads and dist. cap with the spark plugs.

I've just solved the problem of misfiring with my C180 through elimination.

The following items were replaced: -

1) Complete Exhaust inc CAT
Problem remained - needed done anyway
2) 2no Ignition Coils
Problem remained
3) MASS
Problem remained
4) Ignition Leads including plug caps under the coils and air filter
RESULT Problem disappeared

I suggest the leads inc the caps total cost approx £38 from Euro Car Parts. If problem remains do the coils.

You could always just take to a good indy garage.
