Hello,

I noticed a very slow oil leak from the differential housing and it appears oily in general.

I would be grateful if you could give any advise.

Thanks

Same here.

Apparently they do "sweat" by design.

I have been advised mine is worse than it should be, but the garage said in their opinion it was not worth doing at my last service, they will review next time.

Eventually it will need a new seal, which is only a few quid plus a few hours labour.

Mine is really oily on the diff, but never drops oil on the floor.

Can post pics later for comparison if you would like.

Like this?

It's actually leaking from the seal on the otherside of it.

Mine had been like this for some time, but the reason the garage were not bothered is that they checked the level and there wasn't any significant loss at all.

I will get mine done at some point though, just for the sake of it.

Thanks for posting the info and the pics. Mine looks pretty similar though maybe with a bit more oil.

I'd post a picture too but I'm not allowed to post attachments... according tothe forum rules.

Thanks again

Link to pictures, dont attach them.

Mine is exactly the same as Grahams, slight leak, nothing to write home about, garage said they will fix when it gets worse. Cost is just over a ton - about 5p for the gasket and a few hours labour.

Couldn't sleep Graham? Most count sheep - our man takes photos of his oily diff!!

as Steve K said, it'll stop it from rusting :)
