I am new to the forums, but just wanted all mb members to know i have had this knocking from the steering when i drive on rough ground and when i brake.
Been to a number of garages ALL have told me something different ie the struts need replacing,steering rack need replacing, anti roll bar bent, and of course the costs. All aound £2500.00 to correct.
So i am going to save you all a canny bit. Here's what i did to rectify the problem, --- Replaced both front lower TRACK CONTROL ARMS(just the front lower not the front rear ones)I done both sides at the same time).
Replaced both sides Track rod ends. I bought the parts from the local A1 motorstore, cost £96.00 for both track control arms. £38.00 for track rod ends. Labour cost me £50.00 from the local garage and of course you need the tracking done £15.00
Total cost £199.00.Total saving off £2301.00. Problem solved. Iam happy.
