I own a 2009 c200k which has a clicking noise for about 30secs on a cold start. Usually more audible when the car has been stood overnight and the weather is preety cold. Is this normal for the m271 engine?

If the weather is warm then clicking lasts few seconds and once the car is warm its flawless, engine is very quite.

I've spoken to the dealer and they've mentioned because I use 0w-40 oil and with it being a thin oil it leaks out of the tappet valves very quickly when stood overnight. So Been told when the car is started in the morning the tappets have to repressurise themselves hence the clicking/clatter noise.

Also mentioned if i use 5w-40oil which is a little thicker it wouldn't leak out of the valves as quick as the mobil 1 0w-40 and should reduce most of the clicking/clatter on a cold start.

Dealer must be trying to get one over me then!!! I guess they were trying to say its thinner than 5w 40.
