c200k sports coupe
Hi All
I have searched high and low through the forums on more than this site but dont seem to be able to find my answer. So any help would be much appreciated.

The car is a c class 200 Komp auto on a 02 plate 74k miles. The car started to run a little rough around november. It was well over its B service so i had that done first. The garage said the car threw up some MAF codes but they seemed to have reset. Around 2 days later these where back. I had the MAF replaced along with the Lambada sensor. The car was ok for a few days but Maf codes returned. The sensor was replaced for the proper Merc one at that point with no charge.

The car still runs strange, There is no engine warning lights on, The car runs fine on tick over. The idle speed seems to be fine. The problems seem to be when the car goes into drive. The revs drop down and then rise sharply and the car seems to want to drive off even with the breaks on. This happens at junctions and lights when the revs are low. The throttle pick up is sluggish when moving away from lights but then picks up after a few seconds. The symptoms seem to be worse in the cold but this could be my imagination.

Any help would be much appreciated. I love my merc and would like to keep it :)

First things first. Does the engine lamp illuminate with just the ignition turned on? If not somebody may have de activated it in the cluster. It's unusual to have engine running issues without the malfunction lamp coming on

Hi

If it has the 271 engine ( black plastic looking top)
Then get the engine breather pipe that is under the air box checked for splits
It comes up from the block, it draws in air & gives mixture & maf faults also causes erratic revs but it does usually affect idle aswell.
If split get a new modified pipe from merc about £10 & an hour to fit.

Hello

Thanks for the quick reply, The engine management light is not on when the car is running but lights up on the second click.

I read about the infamous hose on here before. i plan to have a look at it in the morning. I did mean to rule it out at some point but we did not get the weather for it here in wigan over the weekend. I plan to have a look in the morning and will let you know what i found. Not sure about the engine. It has Kompressor wrote down the middle of a silver head with lots of plastic covers on either side.

Thanks again :)

Ok then....
I think you may have a torque converter issue. This would not necessary put the eml on and would fit with the symptoms you are describing. With erratic revs the throttle actuator should always be checked as first port of call and cleaned of any carbon deposits.
If the tc lock up clutch is dragging for any reason it will cause the symptoms you are describing! The car needs a road test with star attached to check the values and see whats happening with the tc lock up

Rule out the breather pipe under the air box as that is on the later engine.
You have the earlier engine

Hi

Thanks. I had a good look about but couldnt find anything myself regarding the vacuum pipes. I took it to my local garage and asked him to check it over for leaky vac. He just rang and said he had found a split pipe on the back of the engine and ordered one from Merc.

Any ideas what this one is?

Thanks again.

This issue us the classic split rubber hose,,, its under the air box.

The split hose will cause the MAF code to come up.

Hello again

The plot thickens. Last week i ended up taking it to my local garage and explained the split hose to him. He had a good look and informed me that he had found one and ordered a new part from Mercedes. This seems to have cure the strange reving when the car is in dive but i would have to say its not 100%.

The car still has the problem on no acceleration when setting of from lights or junctions. It seems to be 1 or 2 seconds before it decides to go but it comes with a bit of a woosh, nothing life threatening.

I have just recovered it from a mercedes specialist who did a diag on it and came up with nothing but intermittent mixture problems. I asked him about the MAF and was it worth replacing for a Bosch one. He seemed unconvinced it would make a difference. He checked it over for air leaks but didnt find anything.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks

Scott

Sounds like you need more in depth investigation that you are getting

Hello again.

I'm trying to work out if I have the wrong MAF on my car as it still struggles when moving away from stand still. It dosent do this every time but seems to be getting worse. Is there a way to see if its not a real one designed for my car?
Also I understand that I can run it without the MAF to be sure. How do I disconnect this?
And lastly where in the uk can I purchase a genuine on for a 02 plate c200 kompressor sports coupe?

Thanks

Scott
