mercedes e350 cdi sport coupe
Hi. Hope someone can point me in the right direction. Infact any direction will do. I have a c207 e350cdi 2011. Absolutely love the car. However after a reliable 122,000 miles a problem has arisen that I cannot solve. The other day while parked at traffic lights she cut out. Almost like fuel starvation. After the 5th attempt it started and seemed to run fine. What I noticed was a slight hunting of the revs at any rev range. On further investigation I found that this is, i think, caused by the throttle body butterfly oscillating between open and closed while the revs are constant. Car starts fine, ticks over and revs well but always has this hunting. Can anyone point me in the right direction as I am stumped on this one. I do like to do my own maintenance and will have a go at anything once I have a direction.
Many thanks in advance.
Dave

Thank you for thereply Larkone. Yes I thought that would be the most effective course of action. I have booked it in at the local Mercedes dealer for their diagnosis service. Not cheap but hopefully it will highlight the problem and solution. 🤞

Your own code reader, would save you a fortune, especially if you do your own maintenance, for the cost of a diagnostic session at a garage, you could buy a code reader, you could get an Autel ap200 for less than £50, which can read all the modules.

Thanks totiemerced for the advice. . My brother is a mechanic and he has his own code reader. There were no fault codes logged. That's why I have gone the dealer route so they can hopefully look at the live data and diagnose the fault.

Thanks again toteimerced.
I have managed to fix the problem. I have removed the egr valve and cleaned it. I also noticed that there is a bit of wear in the shaft on the actual valve as it goes through the valve body. This causes sticking sometimes. A bit of lubrication temporarily fixed it enough to test. All running OK. I will replace with a new one. The dilemma is why weren't there any fault codes to indicate this?

Were you scanning for generic OBD codes or MB specific?

When I had an EGR fault my iCarsoft unit did pick up a code. .

Hi. My thanks for the reply. It was my brother, who's the mechanic, that was scanning the codes through the OBD wit his snap-on reader that showed no fajlts codes with the egr.
Thanks.

Perhaps I didn't explain it well..
Yes he would connect via the OBD port but you can then use the scan tool to check for generic (OBD) codes or manufacturer specific diagnostics.

Hi DSM10000. Sorry about the misunderstanding. I' m OK with the spanners but haven't had much experience with the electronic side of things. I think that he scanned for all as it did flag up a P126F29 fault which I think relates to the stop, start function and a invalid signal. I will check with him and let you know.
