The drivers side mirror on my 2009 E350 coupe has always made a bit of a groaning noise when folding in or out since I've had the car, but lately it's been struggling to unfold. Which usually results in me needing to fold the mirrors in using the button, open the drivers window, and then press the button to unfold the mirrors whilst gently pushing the drivers mirror out.

I've tried WD40 in the past but I'm thinking that I really need to remove and strip the whole mirror, or replace it.

Anyone had this issue before, and how hard is it to remove and strip the mirror? Or any other suggestions?

Spray grease, aerosol can with straw and squirt towards the pivot will fix the problem.

Tried that several times with WD40 without any luck. Do you have a particular product in mind that might work better?

And did you partially strip the mirror unit down 1st for better access?

WD 40 is not suitable. It will dissolve any grease that was there and also wash out quickly. hence the recommendation to use a spray grease (I used a Lithium grease)

Did you partially strip down any of the mirror for better access, or just spray from the outside?

Depends which type you have, WD make all sorts of lubes nowadays, although very overpriced.
