c220 has locked me out

Hi,

Hope someone can help me.

My MErcedes c220 (n reg) has locked me out and I can't get into the car.

I haven't driven it for some time as i have been away but the key fobs still flash so i know it's not the battery in those but the usual red flashing light is not flashing on the rear view mirror and the door.

I assume this means that the battery is flat but on this model there appears to be no key hole to manually unlock the car, only one on the boot which won't open.

IS there anyone out there that can help??

thanks

Hi Dave,

Check both sides for a key lock hole, there might well be a small circular plastic cover hiding the keyhole.

The boot locks often sieze up due to lack of use (because everyone uses the remote to unlock it). You could try soaking it in penetrating oil or WD40 etc but I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

Best bet is to try and find the door lock keyhole then open the bonnet and apply power from there. Failing that you can get to a power lead that feeds the battery from the inside of the car on the passenger footwell.

Good luck,

Will

I'll have a look for it. I guess it must be on the passenger side as the flashy lights are on the drivers side.

Thanks , I can go back to looking at pics of Tara Reid online now...

If all the above fails, take off the near side front wheel, then remove the wheel arch liner, this will reveal the starter motor, just put 12volt to the large terminal and the locking will work

that is why i use mine once a week to open the boot.

Very sensible, only person I know who does though!

Odd that new MB owners so often even think about the possibility that the car could not be entered with the mechanical key (some never even figured there is one hidden in the key fob). Reading the manual should be useful. I guess buyers of a second hand car get less instructions from the dealer.

Nice forum members anyway, giving advice to any sort of issues. On this one specifically I very seldom see "RTFM" or worse posts when a simple problem faces a new forum member. And the forum still is rich of technical knowledge, or perhaps that is the exact reason.

I hope and assume daveb slept well because of the help he got.

sorry all, one more quick question - ive managed to get into the car by to charge the battery i need to get into the boot which I still cannot.

Ive followed the instruction to get to the earth cable in the footwell and I can get to the power cable but i just need to know what you mean by 'earthing to any solid part of the car'.

thanks

If you have got to the battery, the the above no longer matters as you can now charge it.

What was meant was any bolt or bracket where an earth connection could have been made

As soon as the battery gets near 12 volt the boot and locking should work again though you may need to re sync the alarm/key

i think he is saying i've managed to get in to the car but to charge the battery and not by to charge the battery

managed to get the boot open. thanks all.

battery is now charging. lets hope it's not now going to cause an alarm problem...

The alarm will go off when the battery reaches a certain voltage, as the boot is open. Just cancel it with the remote and all will be well.

If one of the neighbours pours a bucket of water in the boot when the alarm goes off, is this classified as flood damage :cool:

are you charging the battery while it is in the boot?
