Hi Again,
I posted yesterday regarding the "noisy" ignition, when inserting the key. After searching around, and speaking to my independent, it would seem that there may be some problem with the electronic steering lock. Apparently, they sometimes go, albeit very rarely, and when they do, they make this kind of noise.
Apparently, it is a much bigger job, if the lock fails, rather than changing it prior to failure, although my independent, says it may just remain noisy "for ever!"
He did then say, don't hold him to it, as it could fail tomorrow!
Has anybody got any experience with this?
I assume the part is only available from the stealers?
Are there any electronic wizards, that repair this sort of thing?
Your help, as always, gratefully received.
Cheers

These locks cannot be repaired, I cant see how they can make a noise, and they do fail so that the key will not turn

Cheers Malcolm.
The noise I describe, is the noise that the key makes when it enters the ignition.
There now seems to be a louder, less refined noise.
Any thoughts?
Cost etc?
Once again thanks for taking the trouble to respond.

The only thing that could make a noise is something resonating (lose core) I will find the one in the picture and see what I can find

It will be the steering lock motor itself.

That is one complicated lock, kinda makes the 1990's Escort van barrels look rather primitive. The works vans ignition barrels always used to fail and two minutes with the steering column would always get it going.
