My new toy, c230 sport estate Komp, has a bad habit of stuttering badly when the gas pedal is pressed firmly. I don't just mean the carpet denting foot slammed to the floor type firmly either. When driven gently and with gradually increasing pedal pressure its fine and responsive, but very occasionally when doing various speeds from 20 to 50 if you hit the pedal just a bit harder (as if overtaking) it stutters badly and just doesn't want to do anything until you lift off and then gently apply pressure to the pedal?

I bought the car for a keen price which would allow for some money to be spent on it but I don't want to fall into the "we'll change that (£500) bit to see if it makes a difference" trap!!!!

Its booked into my local 'specialist' next week for an overdue service and other bits, and I don't want them to spend all my money looking for the fault, has anyone had a similar experience.?

I had a couple of 230te before this and the difference is amazing, despite its fault(s) the 'K' is great to drive!.

Any ideas on the fault would be welcome

Jerry

Ok looking around the forum at other c230k probs it seems it could one of several things: Mass Air thingy, kompressor clutch, airbox flap thingy, throttle sensor thingy, dirty air filter, fuel starvation or the ECU thingy etc etc plenty of food for thought, hmmm...

It seems like the fault occurs when its under load so I would be looking at the ignition side of the engine. For example: Leads, plugs and ignition coils etc.
I would start here first.

I'd put money on a faulty coil pack.

Ok perhaps 'stutter' was a bad choice of word, the car doesn't jerk or kangeroo much it just doesn't change up or speed up and the revs stay exactly the same even if you put your foot down hard, you can feel/hear it trying to do something under the bonnet but unless you lift off it will hang there doing nothing?

Prob is now worse, can only drive in ultra-granny mode, anything else gets you nowhere fast!

Hope its just the MAS or something

Try an air mass. Sounds more likely after your last description.

Ok new MAS fitted and problem solved, a major B service and various changed dash bulbs and things have left my wallet a lot lighter!.

They have given me a list of other things that they reckon need doing and it makes alarming reading, the list is long and the prices horrendous!, I shall be getting a second opinion on them and most of the work can be done by my local garage at half the labour rate.

I shall be coming here to get some friendly advice on certain jobs that I may tackle myself. I will put the list here when I can find it.

got the same problem with my e 220 w124 it stutters in first gear when i push the pedal hardly, no stuttering in the rest of my gears...
still didn't found a solution :(

Possible air leak into the manifold.

I would suspect that the throttle body is one of the causes. As DM says, air leak is a possibility. It may also be that the throttle body needs boot strapping.

i've got exactly the same prob with my c230k misfire going past 4k when moving only in first. changed maf with cheap ebay one (not the best idea), coil packs, lambda, spark plugs and leads too. overfuelling too probably because of the air leak but i cannot find anything - although i have limited knowledge.

still not resolved - only got the comment that probarly my gearbox has to change, what i'm thinking is very strange because all the other gears all doin' very well :s
