C230K W202 crank pulley

Thanks for the responses guys, i agree totally that there's a point where modding one engine is replaced with buying a more powerful original, was just hoping that with everything else that i've done to the car there'd be a bit worth doing under the bonnet!

I'd look into the C43, but this particular car has been in my family for 8 years, and recently i've replaced/modified loads so wouldnt want to get dir of it........ plus im not old enough for an automatic yet :p

Will keep looking to see if there's any cost effective improvements that i can make.

Thanks for your input :)

I wouldnt bother with a manifold.. if you remove the heat shielding on top of the manifold on the pre 2001 m111 kompressor engines you will find that they are already 4-2-1 mild steel. Early m111 kompressor engines had clutched 70mm pulleys as fitted to my 1999 C230, late m111 kompressor engines like on a W208 CLk or W203 C class the kompressors were fitted with fixed 70mm pulleys. It would be cheaper to replace with one of these if you didnt want the hassle of finding a poly-v-belt to take up the decreae in pulley size. The other thing preventing more boost is that theres a boost recirculated flap fitted to the intake or air filter housing which switches at 2k rpm, same as the clutch on the pulley. under 2k rpm is probably considered as economy running. Removing the recirculted flap however wont help the engine management to work smoothly as on most hfm kompressor engines, the recirculated flap is wired in parallel with the intake camshaft advancement,so if the flap is removed the car wont rev as happy around 2-5k rpm. All m111 engines normally aspirated or charged have adjustable intake camshaft. Im struggling to find ways to increase boost and power myself, i have removed the catalyst and centre box and have gained 6bhp which isnt enough. I work as a Mercedes Technician and have also tried intercoolers from E-class diesel and Viano diesel but its hard to find a decent intercooler to fit into the narrow space without cutting and welding.
