C230k w202 engine cover plate

Could anyone please tell me why the cover plate on top of my engine is just in plain alloy, but from other pictures I have seen of my car the cover plate is red.
The engine in mine is an M111975 and the car was first registered on 02/01/96 .
oooooh she’s 15 years old. No wonder she’s playing up lately.

Why not have a plain alloy rocker cover?
All pre-facelift 202 versions of this engine (M111975) had a plain alloy cover, if you also look at pics from later cars you will see a noticable difference in the air ducting as well. The Kompressor is controlled differently and they have fly by wire throttle where yours has,nt.

Thank you for that.Is the other version better then, or is it just down to modern technoligy.Your C230K sounds like a nice piece of kit, i would love to see some pics if you have any and i like the sund of the illuminated sills.
