Purchased one of the last C240 sports' on a W plate from Mercedes through Signature about 5 months ago and must say am absolutely delighted with the car. This was confirmed only yesterday, as I am currently in the process of replacing my wife's car and test drove a new Saab Convertible yesterday. We liked the car but couldn't wait to get back in the Merc. A few motnhs ago my wife wouldn't have considered a Merc for her transport (she hated them), but has now decided it has to be a CLK. Here lies the problem though. Our budget is £20k - we'd (actually I) really like a CLK320, but could anyone tell me if this is worth the extra over the 230 Kompressor. Seems I can pick up a CLK230 with extra kit and a couple years yougner for the same money. Also is the CLk230 a nice drive?

Finally as regards the C240, it is in okay spec with Xenons, sunroof but doesn't have leather or heated seats. Could anyone possible advise whether these can be fitted retrospectively and how much this would cost.

Cheers
G

Hi G,

Welcome to the forums, Yep Leather can be fitted aftermarket - what colour is your interior at the moment?

as for the heated seats yes that's quite easy to do once you have the heater elements!

If you can stretch to the 320 I would. I had a 230komp for 2 years, and whilst it was a nice car, smooth drive and attractive looking car, the whine of the engine got me down. It's just as fast as the 320 so it seems, just 2 less cylinders, less refined basicaly.

However, either way you can't really go wrong. Make sure the CLK is a model year 2000 and onwards.

Welcome G.

I had a C240 (t 1999) and loved it also. The wife wanted a CLK so we swapped.

I was considering getting leather and found several places in the south having searched on the WEB. Suggest you do the same in your area. However, the price for perforated leather was about £1450 all in. You can get plain leather for about £1200 also.

As Maff said the 230K CLK is fast (ish) but I agree a 'little' coarse. I had a manual one for 6 months but please get an auto one on a W 2000 year model or later.

I have a 430 but they are expensive to buy but very smooth. Next to the V8 I would say the 320 V6 is almost as smooth (my boss has one) and we have some good fun although I usually let him take the honours.......he is the boss of course!

I think a late model 230K with leather and auto would be a good choice or the V6 if the money allows. You will be happy with either IMHO.
