Currently w211 E240, Porsche 911 C2 Cab, oh and a Fiesta
I have a C240 Sport with the standard 16inch Sportpack alloys and standard sportpack suspension.

Can anyone tell me the largest tyres which will safely fit on these rims. Currently running Pilot Primacy 205/55/vr16s which have done really well, both in performance and long life

Anyone have any views on size or a better quality/value for money tyre instead?

Hi,

I have wondered the same thing and have been advised by two different local tyre specialists that to remain safe you shouldn't really stray from fitting the standard spec 205/55/16 tyres to the stock 16" sport alloys. I think if you want to go to wider rubber then you'll have to invest in some wider alloys too.

I know where you are coming from though... as my first car was meant to have 165/65/14 tyres fitted but I used to fit 185 wide tyres instead, apparent I was told I could do this as the tyres were much higher profile so there was room for manouvre so to speak.

*EDIT* I really like the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 but the Michelin's that you have also get good write ups, they'll also last longer than the Goodyear's as the GY's are a relatively soft compound.
