Hi I’ve got a c250 2.1 CDI w204 2013

basically I reverse off the driveway drove to the top of the street to a junction as I came to a stop I went to put it in 1st from 3rd gear and it felt different it went in gear it was just slightly off centre.. then when I pulled up I went to reverse but there’s no reverse at all..

Has anyone experienced this please or any known issue before it goes to the garage please 😅 thanks in advance

sounds like the gear selector rod under the car has moved position.

I take it this guy never came back to update. Similar with me. Gearbox replacement just with this simple fault. Pissed off with Mercedes and this gearbox problem is an understatement.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for coming back to update. Mine isnt anything to do with the gearbox. One of my mates that looked at mine told me what it was and actually showed me. He showed me with the whole gearshift assembly thing apart. He engaged all gears with long nose pipe wrench style pliers. This confirmed the actual gearbox is fine. All gears engaging as normal. The whole gear shift stick lever assembly on the top had crumbled as well as the bush that holds together the connector rod that goes into the gearbox was in bits.. Most of the washers and bushes are actually rubbish weak plastic. Ive a feeling my car was in an un-declared front end crash of some sort before i bought it and it wasnt declared. Somewhere else on pistonheads forum a guy said the gearbox cast had split where the linkage went inside the gearbox. I doubt this very much. He was only going on what he was told. You wouldnt be able to know this unless the whole gearbox was removed. What would have happened is the upper assembly stuff outside the gearbox would have been smashed to bits as mine is. Presently going thru the motions of ordering all the washers, bushes, gearstick linkages. I have a slight very small seepage of gearbox oil around a seal. so the seal is getting replaced aswell and new gearbox oil put in. Hopefully have it back on the road by end of next week assuming all the parts come on time. Interesting to know that this losing 2nd and reverse gear is not (in my case) a replacement gearbox job. I was also told by so called gearbox specialists that this fault was definetely requiring a new gearbox because the damage was internally inside the gearbox. When i started talking about the workings of my gearbox as i had the diagram sitting in front of me they got edgy and seemed to want to GTF ASAP. Seems there might be a bit of ripping off customers involved in this fault. So beware,

Hello, my wife's C220 estate has the same problem. was fine previous evening, next morning would not go into 2nd tried backing up and no reverse? Have you still got the external linkage diagram? Kind regards, Dave

Listen mate. This fault is an internal gearbox fault. As i have said to previous members who incurred this horrible fault. Do not attempt to fux it or get it REFURBISHED as the parts to fix this are un-available and the internal weld fix is not 100% guaranteed. The most in-expensive snd quicket way to fix this is buy another gesrbox post 2013 and get a garage to fit it.
Do not and I repeat DO NOT waste your tme or money messing about with a garage to diagnose this fault or give suggestions.
An attempted refurb or weld usually results in more problems further down the line.
The faulty gearbox part number is 711653 and there are only 2 differences. You get it WITH or WITHOUT start stop with it. If you dont have start stop then pre 2013 gearbox will be ok. If you do have start stop just insure your 2nd hand replacement gearbox HAS start stop.
As Ive said do not waste your time
Or money with this fault other than replacing it with a 2nd hand gearbox. Also keep using it until you get gearbox replsced. You just gotta think about your driving routes and parking places so you always can DRIVE THRU. This ensures the car is sitting idle getting brakes seized up etc etc. ive spent the time here to give you this advice. It is an annoying time consuming fault. I replaced my own gearbox after exact same fault! Find a gearbox snd get it replaced. Its not that big a job. No subframes or snything much to remove to get gearbox out.
