C250 Td funny noise

Thanx for the advice, will check that area tomorow and let you know if i find anything.

Just a little update,I bypassed the fuel heater/thermostat but have still got air coming up from the tank.If the tank has got a build up of black sludge causing a partial blockage would this cause air to be sucked from the tank.the reason im asking is i put a new pre filter on it and not even 10 miles later i checked it and already there is black sludge starting to appear again?
Is there any easy way if at all of cleaning the tank as i rang mercedes for a new tank and i should of been sitting down...£630:eek:

It’s hard to say really, I didn’t do it all in the one day. The sprocket is easy enough to get too, keeping the timing in place was the most difficult part. I have a pdf document for instructions on how to remove the injector pump, I can send them too you if you’d like. I’ve also the part number for the sprocket as well.
- 91dm any chance you could post that pdf and sprocket part number here please. Quick question too; is there any way you could manually unblock it? - & have/will you try it as a fix for your noise Jonathan?

A few possibly relevant comments. I changed all plastic pipes due to air ingress 6 months ago and shortly before that the rubber injector drain pipes but I did not have enough of the pipe to do all of them and left one. When the rubber drain pipes fail air is draw in unless the injector pockets are full of diesel because a full pocket(s) spills over. Three days ago after a -10 degee night the car started fine and ran for a couple of miles then parked for an hour. Then it would not start due to a complete drain back to tank. After a long crank it started thank heavens for a good battery. It was the one old rubber link pipe that had hardened and had leaked air after it warmed up, yet had only leaked a little diesel into the injector pocket. Taking that top cover off the injectors is always interesting. I wonder what the maximum charged is for changing those rubber pipes.

Thanks for your helpful comments Dieselman.

Here’s the sprocket, ‘605 10’ was the only numbers that I could see.

I did manually unblock the whole but replaced the part because I wasn’t sure if it had damaged the insides.

The pdf is for removing the injector pump, I can send it to you in a pm if you want?

the leak-off pipe is very cheap and easy to change if you are happy to remove the cover to get access.

It seems that I do not have the use of PM having not posted 30 times yet so not sure what to do other than this [email protected]! Thanks in advance by the way.

Unfortunately I cannot open the sound clip but I had a simmilar situation on my C250TD, in the end it turned out to be the vibration damper (little shock absorber) on the fan belt.

My sound seemed to come from the back of the engine rather than near the fan belt, but after an oil change yesterday my 'cackling' as someone previously described it has quietened down considerably... so fingers crossed

My noises came back after a couple of hundred miles so I tried Millers a few days ago. The difference now is nothing short of miraculous. My old banger is running like a dream. Sincere thanks to everyone on this thread. Top advice gratefully received.
