My 1998 C250TD (100,000 miles)has devloped an annoying
Turbo Whine. As soon as the revs go over 2500 a high pitched whine/whistle can be heard. Originally I thought it may be the exhaust leaking but this has been checked out as ok.

Is my Turbo on the way out? If so how much is a new one?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

It could be but it's very early for one of these turbos to fail. Check for a blocked exhaust or leaky inlet pipes before condemning the turbo.

Whine is normally down to imbalance and is usually accompanied by oil smoke and other noise from the turbo bearings.

Thanks for the advice. I had it checked out by the local garage and he couldn't find any pipes with snags or the exhaust. The car does not have the umph it once had. Exhaust smoke and oil are not a problem either.

Check the wastegate linkage is pulling tight and the MAP sensor is working properly, either could cause low power.
