c270 cdi epc error only on kickdown

hi there iv just got this problem on my 2003 c270 cdi ,when you hit kickdown i get a epc light flash then go away ,so i dont get any kickdown power ,but if i put my foot down to the point just before kickdown button endless power ,

any help will be appreciated

I would suspect the throttle potentiometer to be faulty (the small unit under the bonnet, nearside and close to the bulkhead, what the throttle cable connects to)

great thanks i will try that ,one thing i noticed is that when i put ignition position 2 so lights are on dash,then put my foot on throttle pedal and touch kickdown button same flash comes up without the engine on at all.

Definitely worth trying another potentiometer.....(throttle position sensor)
