I have brake judder primarily from the nearside front I think; i have checked the discs and the look almost new with very little wear and no warping visible to the naked eye.

I have noted from various posts that non MB discs can warp badly from new, surely safety critical items must meet some standards of safety performance !!!.

How little waarping can create brake judder and should I be looking for something else or just change the discs. Any recommendations where to buy the discs.

Brake judder can have very many reasons other than warped discs.

Discs can be checked for run-out, but front suspension also needs to be checked carefully.

Have a friend with an independent garage and spoke to him today about the problem, he has a disc skimming lathe to machine up the disc in situ on the car. Worth a try before we start with new discs. Having the anti-roll bar assembly changed as well so fingers crossed.

Skimming brake discs was the routine procedure when I was much younger... I actually asked about this recently and the MB dealer said that this is not done these days any more, something to do with the tolerance being small i.e. by the time the discs need skimming they will already be very near their minimum thickness anyway.

But then again, this could be simply due to the current main dealer policy of swapping/renewing components rather than actually fixing them.

On a another issue, I was quite (pleasantly) surprised today when I passed next to a garage in Kilburn to see a Smart on the ramp - and its engine on a stand nearby completely stripped down. I didn't think garages actually stripped and rebuilt engines these days any more - I thought they only swapped them. Maybe because it was a small side-street garage, and not a main dealer...

Not much better !!!

Disc's are now skimmed and braking is marginally better but not sorted.
I still get a pulsing effect at slower speeds felt though steering which feels like the brakes are on, off, on, off etc which translates into a judder at higher speed.
Considering new discs now, I found Brakes International in Rochdale doing a set of Brembo discs (the big ones for £37.50 each) not sure how good these will be any comments you guys.
