C270 CDI Saloon 2003
Hello all,
My beloved C270 started to lose power intermittently last week and, having looked at this forum, I thought it sounded like the MAF sensor was on the way out and the car was going in and out of limp mode as a result (not revving beyond 2000rpm ish). It's been into the garage today (independent) and they have run diagnostics and come back with a few codes, but no real diagnosis of the problem.

The codes are:

P1470 charge pressure negative control, charge pressure low
P1222 sensor 1 signal voltage high
P0100 bank 2/5 hot (?) mass air flow (missing word - mechanic's illegible handwriting!)
P2001 N15/3 ETC control module faulty
P2600 circuit 87 voltage too low

The engineer advised that the first 3 codes relate to the turbo and MAF sensor and the last 2 codes relate to the gearbox, but he wasn't sure whether the MAF fault and resultant loss of power was the cause of the gearbox/turbo faults or the vice versa. They have recommended going to a diesel specialist to investigate further as they aren't MB specialists.

Any advice would be very gratefully received as I have a sinking feeling that this sounds expensive!

Thanks,
Adam

I would defo change maf and give gearbox a service.
Also check all your pipes going from turbo and from inter cooler for any splits. Worth cleaning your egr valve 2.
Look for a merc indie in your area if you feel you need a 2nd opinion. Everything bar the gearbox service you can easily do yourself.

Many thanks Jay - do you think it's safe to drive the car for a few days before the work is done?

It should be. I've found that if you take it easy until it warms up you don't get the limp mode.

The codes are only half the info. It sounds more like you have a boost leak. Check all the boost pipes for splits and also the intercooler. The P2001 always comes up even if the gearbox is operating correctly. I expect there is nothing wrong with the box.

The charge pressure low fault code is the key to this issue. A maf code could be a consequence of a boost leak.

Check all live data relating to the boost pressure too.

Cheers mate you said it better than I could lol :)

Many thanks gents I appreciate the advice - will update you when I know more!
