Hi
Driving my c270 cdi 143,000 on the clock 05 reg
Plumes of grey smoke from exhaust under light acceleration. The smoke lingers behind me and the cars behind drop back the smoke is quite bad tried driving the car really slow but still loads of smoke and under hard throttle even worse. Car hasn't gone into limp mode and still has full power just lots off smoke.any ideas of what it could be. Any help would be great.

Yep oil seal on turbo..*.STOP ENGINE*

Thank you for your reply. Is that a big expensive job.

There is a real danger of Diesel runaway if the oil seal has gone on the intake side of the turbo.

The engine oil gets past the seal and goes into the cylinders with the intake air. It gets compressed and ignites and when this happens it's self sustaining, running until the oil runs out, you somehow stall the engine or the whole thing explodes.

A new turbo is the best fix.

I haven't embedded the video as there's some colourful language ;)

I recently had a problem with smoke on hard acceleration too.

One more thing you can check, more for elimination than anything, as it what was causing my problem and that is the rubber intercooler hose which runs down the side of the radiator. I've ringed the top visible bit in yellow. Mine had a split in it and there was evidence of oil mist being forced out of the split. (The lower clip is the same as the top one if you want to remove the hose to check it. Difficult to see, so it's more a case of doing it by feel).

Thank you but I can't find any splits
