Can anyone help.

I have just bought a C270 CDI with a 54 plate. This has 35,000 on the clock and has had, as far as I can make out, two "A" services at 17,000 and 33,000. It is due a "B" service in 10,000 miles according to the computer in the car.

I thought it was normal for A & B services to alternate so that the 2nd service at 33,000 should have been a "B" service and the next service should be an "A". Am I correct?......if so, I need to chase the main dealer as he sold the car to me with a FSH and this might not be the case.

Any advice appreciated.

It often does seem to alternate, but it is also possible to have to A-services in succession. I would be wary if there were more than two though.

By the same token, it's possible to have more than one B-Service too - my C-Class had three in a row IIRC.

I think you are right. Straight back to the dealer me thinks

Thanks, I think that A & B services alternate and that it should have had a B service by now especially after covering 35,000

My 54 C270 milage now at 33K had two 'A' services one at 13K and one at 30K.The only advisorys that i had was front pads were 40% worn and rear tyres were down to 3 mm.

I too agree that at least it should have had a diesel filter change and possibly tranny fluid change.

I,ll be off too ollies for that work to be done.

BTW if you change the engine oil midway between services you can entend service intervals.

ive seen more than a few cars that have had only a services up to 40-50k... also the term A service can be pretty loose.. some may ask for an A service with all the other filters changed too and maybe brake fluid etc.. makes it almost a B service, just minus the proper inspections you get on a B service..

Thanks for all your responses.....I note the comments but still do not have any clear idea as to whether A & B services alternate or not! I will just have to take this up with the dealership and hoe for the best!
I am not happy with the service records provied to me as they do not show whether items usch as brake fluid have been changed etc. Also the air filter is black with dust and must be affecting performance, the charcoal filter for AC has never been replaced and I am fairly certain the fuel filter has not been repalced. As far as I can tell, MB did not do a full check up on the car before they handed it over.....they have agreed to take it back and undertake an agreed list of work...I just want to make sure that they do a proper job and cover all that they were supposed to have done originally.

I have a 54 plate C270CDi and my understanding is that the services should alternate A & B, and mine certainly did.

As a rough plan, I gather the system should ensure the car has a B service every couple of years or so, when thinks like the pollen filter and wiper blades would be changed, with an A service (little more than an oil change) in between. But obviously the mileage and type of use will affect the exact interval.

I think jaymanek makes a good point though - the car may have had more work done than simply an A service. I did a lot of miles quickly in my car when I first got it, and it's first service was at 18K. It was booked in for an A but it flipped to B just before it went it. The dealer happily did an A service though, stating ASSYST is only a guide. However it came out firmly showing B as next service.

I then changed the way I do my job so my mileage slowed a lot. It's only just had the B service- it had done another 16K and would have gone further but 2yrs elapsed and the display switches from miles to days.

These cars actually don't need much servicing - mine is on ServicePlus and, (this is me being cynical) because MB are paying the bill the car remarkably needs little work. At the B service the pads and disks were reported as being less worn than they'd been at the MOT a few mths previously. ATF change wasn't mandated for my car (started a few thousand VIN number after mine) so they wouldn't do it. If I'd realised how little servicing it really needed, I wouldn't have bought ServicePlus!

The brake fluid in my car was changed at the same time as the MOT was done at 3yrs - so because this wasn't part of a service it isn't noted in the service book.

If you read your service book, much of the work is listed there in a complete mish-mash of mileages and times. When you take the car in, the VIN and mileage are loaded into a system which produces an ESS - Electronic Service Sheet. This tells the dealer what needs doing. The air filter is probably something like 60K/4yrs so wouldn't be even be due yet.

A new dimension on regenerative braking.

But then it would've needed more, of course..

It's certainly hard to imagine they would have told a cash paying customer that it didn't need an ATF change (in fact they told me it had to be done on my car until they realised it was on ServicePlus) and that there was no point in doing a wheel alignment.
