C270. Manual.

Not owned one but have driven one a couple of times.

The engine was excellent in terms or torque delivery with a very strong and consistent pull, it was (in the model I drove) smooth and with the (to me) rather pleasant 5 cylinder note. I believe it is also one of the most reliable engines of recent years and subject to no black death from the injectors should prove long lived and low maintenance.

As for the gearbox, the one I experienced was not bad! Not the smoothest ever but perfectly acceptable and the torque means you can be a little lazy with gear changes, I also not find the foot operated parking brake an issue on hill starts, it just requires you to get the sequence correct in your head.

John think you already know my view my CLK manual is spot in box is tight and changes precise. I've driven a couple of 270 manuals and my BIL had one for a while and it was a great car so don't let the manual bit put you off

Happy hunting mate and top man for helping Steve out your continued generosity and kindness never ceases to amaze me

So I have an itch to scratch and that itch is a C270. The only one in my price range at the moment would be a manual.

2001 51 Mercedes-Benz C270 2.7TD ( F/lift ) CDI Elegance DIESEL RARE MANUAL VGC | eBay

Anyone ever had a C Class manual and your opinions please. I thank you.

That looks like a very good car for the price! Hopefully the description is accurate and no severe rot.

I would quite fancy that myself! It would be great for delivering horse related stuff to the stables etc:thumb:

Not sure why the advert says facelift when the W203 was facelifted from around a 53 plate... I'd also imagine the "price drop" is down to the colour of the paintwork, but if you're planning to keep it for a while then residuals and sell on don't really matter I'd imagine.

Any Mercedes of that era with the 2.7 IL5 CDI and manual gearbox should be more 'reliable' than similar with auto boxes etc; I owned a 54 plate W211 E270 CDI auto for a year as my first ever Mercedes and nothing went wrong, just needed an oil service.
