So i bought a 15 year old car.. the paint is still black.. but its very rough to the touch, i know i have to clay.. but whats better for the paint? clay or sand? and seeing how i have a pre-facelift c280 my bumpers and trim have chrome everywhere.. (the door knobs too) what is the best way to get rid of it? do i just sand/primer/spray?

What do you mean by sand? Sandpaper?

Unless you know what you're doing, with sandpaper you're entering a world of pain.

I'd clay it, and you should see good results.

As for chrome - dunno. I *guess* you could sand it and spray it? I would assume there are unchromed parts you could get from a scrap yard or something which would involve less labour and personal suffering :-)

Clay everytime almost impossible to make a mess up of the job! lots of soapy water.
