c32 amg cooling fan remains on , help

It might be worth talking a look in the ecu.

Not sure on your car but the r170 slk has a series of topfets controlling the outputs from the ecu.

These can be tested using the diode setting on a multimeter.

I had a problem with the supercharger not actuating and it was down to a broken topfet.

done a bit more leg work on this today and things look positive, i managed to get the correct part number now that i have the ecu in my hand and, the part number i have been looking for ecu companies to test and mend is the superseded part number. the correct ecu part number for my 2001 c32 is a031 545 1832. and is readily available uncoded or my code can be transferred to it. Also bb reman say they can fully test it. Also other companies can rebuild it. So lets hope all is well soon otherwise i will be facing a bill of over 2000 pounds for mercedes to deal with.

Ok so gets an update today ref my ecu , apparently is fixed . But bba also said that to stop it from going again I need to replace the harness from ecu to fan , no as far as I am aware the signal wire is only one wire , bit confused as it had continuity. I asked them what they had replaced or fixed an they couldn't be specific ! Wtf ... They are going to charge me 403 pound and and invoice to say its fixed ... I think before I pay I demand to know what they have done . What do you think ? Snotty cow on phone aswell , she thought I was being rude asking :/

That does sound suspect. Tell them you want a line item invoice detailing exactly what was done to (a) repair the problem & (b) test that it is indeed fixed.

It may well be that your ECU was a No Fault Found that leaves them thinking it is the harness that is faulty. However the harness should be fairly easy to check out?

Either way they should be prepared at these prices to justify their work.

Yeah that's what I thought I will demand it , the harness was checked out already so confused.

I believe early w203 had a similar fan ecu setup to the w220.

On my w220 I had to replace a couple of fan ecu assemblies at great cost.

The fault was water getting into the ecu (located on the fan shroud). In my case it was wicking up the ground wire! Luckily it only blew the fan ecu not the main.

Might be worth checking your fan ecu for water ingress. There is a breather cap on the ecu that can be used for inspection.

I recon that's been checked out a a matter of course but I'll ask the Indy were the car is abandoned

So My ECU was sent to bba reman , they kept it for 10 days , after pestering them i got it back repaired. However they sent it to a third party for repair which is bad really :( it went to avilec on the Isle of wight . Yeah I know. BBa then charged me 403 pounds for the service.

The third party changed the chip that controls the fan and told me to make sure the harness to the fan was changed otherwise will happen again.

Any how Alex crow Stowmarket indy changed the signal wire to the fan from ecu, as he couldnt find any problems with any of the wires, but swopped out the signal wire to keep bba reman happy , if i ever have to claim the life warrantee.

All ok now so i am happy.

So anyone else with this problem all is not lost as ecu can be repaired , at the right place. Some places cant do it.

The Ecu went pop again over a month ago , same fault , I had it repaired under warrantee with Bba , I had to find a fix for this as the fan was spiking the Ecu somewhat , I did quite a bit of research and discovered a TSB for a clk 500 same set up , had the same problem . An adapter to harness was made by MB with a 10 ohm resister in place . I have fitted this and have no more problems but I will keep monitoring this problem, I also swapped the fan too. The old fan was checked as much as possible and no faults were found.
