Just purely out of interest as i see a few of you guys have these, maybe you can enlighten me?

Is this the smallest engined AMG model? (I've always been put off the AMG's because of their huuuge engines!)

I assume its as mental in performance as the rest of the AMG's, so if so why don't they all have V6's or at least slightly smaller engines?

Are these as good as they look and are they a useable daily driver?

Are they really expensive to own or is it just the mpg pain?

Many thanks, Questions Quigley! :D

Theres also the C30Cdi AMG engine which starts life as a 2.7ltr.

ooooh, sounds nice, is that actually a diesel AMG model or just the engine?

LHD only

Pretty much the smallest petrol engine I think - there was an N/A 3.2 W201 190 IIRC.

It's mental compared to most cars, but not that mental compared to other recent AMGs with larger capacity engines.

Autocar Road Test figures - considered reliable - were 0-60mph in 4.6s and 0-100 in 10.8s - the supercharged V8 E55 were tested at 0-100mph in 10.6s.

With regards to why don't they all have V6s? They couldn't fit a V8 in the nose of the W203 and R170 and so a supercharged V6 bought them some time to engineer the W203 engine bay to fit the NA 5.4 V8 (C55) and develop the R171 which was designed from the outset for the NA 5.4 V8 (SLK55).

Current trend towards blown smaller capacity engines could see a return to this type of engine - Audi now have a supercharged 3.0 V6 for their S-cars.

Yes, lots of performance for little money these days. They are absolutely a daily driver - much, much more suitable for the job than the equivalent M3. But that said the M3 would be the better track or weekend-only car.

Scheduled servicing is very cheap (for the performance). They're reasonably reliable save the usual MB problems, plus a weak intercooler pump (which is easy to diagnose and fix), and they're pretty good on fuel: 30mpg for motorways, 26mpg for B-roads, and 22mpg rush hour driving.

The w203 C55 has a w209 CLK front end ( only way they could get the V8 in there ) ...

you could say that yes!
