C32 CPS needs replacing

Has anyone on here changed a crank positioning sensor on a C32?

I'm on holiday in the Isle of Wight and mines just gone lol. Don't really fancy getting recovered l the way home, and I don't really fancy paying some amature mobile mechanic to have a go just because I don't have tools on me. I would rather pop down halfords and buy what I need.

So does anyone know how difficult this is and if its even possible to get to it from the top? A lot of websites say you can and other sites say underneath. But the thing they all seem to have in common is that they are American, so when it says drivers side under air box am I right in guessing it will be our passenger side?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yes passenger side,on top just before the bell housing(it reads off the flywheel) you will need a torx bit,not sure what size but it's small and and two mini extension bars(long ones) and bit driver or mini ratchet, you need the extensions because space is limited .simple job though, just disconnect plug on top undo one bolt and remove.

I had the CPS replaced on my C32 and the main dealer did it. They said it should e quite simple, but often and as was the case with mine, it's an absolute monkey to remove the old one.

I seem to recall that the VW main dealer in Newport is also the MB main dealer.

I did try the dealer your talking about but they didn't have the part and then couldn't fit me in until Tuesday. But I leave on Monday morning. I've had a little look this morning and removed the air box but I can't bloody find it lol.

Will have another look in a bit. Just annoying that where I am staying is half hour to the only halfords.

I recently did my C55 but assuming it's the same you will need a 1/4" E8 Torx socket and a selection of 1/4" extension bars to the ratchet.

You need to remove as much as you can in terns of engine covers, MAF etc (C55, not sure about the C32) and reach down from the top by the battery and it's a major fiddle to get the socket on.

The 1/4" was the only socket I could get on the bolt, I had a slightly larger one and it wouldn't fit. I also bought one of those multi-sockets from a local tool shop but it didn't have the grip to turn the bolt, I ended up ordering the E8 online as I couldn't find anyone local with stock.

Once you've got the bolt undone it's fairly straightforward but be prepared for some skinned knuckles.

Cheers!

Phil

There is always MB Southampton.doable from where you are by public transport. ferry/hydrofoil Southampton 20min walk to Southampton central station(rail)-Southampton airport-5min walk from station to dealers, look for the spitfire monument on the roundabout and you are there.
Just re-read your post, see You are leaving Monday, not much help then, sorry.

Well thank you for all your replies. Finally got it changed today. Which means I don't have to go home on the back of a recovery truck.

Note to self. Never replace one of these again lol
