C320 Petrol strange behaviour!

My 2001 Mercedes C320 Avantgarde 's engine light came on today along with an intermittent problem with the gearbox not changing up on it's own and the throttle hesitating at low rpm.
Anyone got any ideas?

Have the fault code read as it is the only way to diagnose.

The MAF was my first thought but I decided against posting it as that tends to start an avalanche of suggestions regarding what the fault may be when there is only one answer as you have found, get the car diagnosed on Star!

Hi there me again with an update on my earlier update!
Lesson learned DON'T by pattern MAF'S, it now idles like two cylinders are missing, Bosch MAF on the way!

Me again, just updating my updated update! Just fitted new Bosch MAF, normal service is resumed, smooth as silk idle, fuel consumption back to normal and instant oomph when required! Lovely.
