C350 cdi Brabus D6s performance upgrade

I've just purchased a D6s from eBay (Germany) for my 2012 c350 cdi. I will have to wait for it arrive before I check with Brabus if it has the latest firmware. (Although I gave them my VIN before I bought it and they confirmed it was the right one. This is a risky approach but with a high reward - a saving of £1200!! My local MB garage has also told me that they will install it with a 2hr labour charge, update the data card, and maintain the warranty.
If it does read a firmware update, then I have read somewhere that Brabus will upgrade it if it's sent to them.

who's fitting the kit for you mate?

I'll let you know when I've had it installed. Hopefully in the next week or so.

So how is it!?

forgive me if im wrong but isnt a remap a far more cost effective and (if done properly) bespoke method of achieving specifically tailored power and/or economy gains than by fitting a generic one size fits all plug and play tuning box?

Yes, but warranty is preserved if fitting the Brabus box, albeit with limited mileage. You're also buying into the Brabus brand.

understood but with a massive price differential, and still not convinced a one size fits all tuning box is superior to a good bespoke remap.

branding is of course a personal choice. i had a number of AC Schnitzer mods on my previous BMW 335d including suspension, and discovered that some were just rebadged bilstein items.

I dare say that the R&D involved in the Brabus tuning boxes greatly exceed those of the 'more speed, more mpg' remappers.

From memory, there's five plugs attached to certain different sensors on the engine (fuel rail, air sensor etc) whereas I doubt any sort of remap will use this sort of technology.

I'm usually pretty sceptical about marketing guff, but I very much doubt that Brabus would put their name to something without a great deal of development.

And keep in mind that I don't ever recall anyone coming on the forum and complaining about a Brabus box, but it's not unheard of to hear unhappy 'independent remap' customers.

I was surprised to see how many of the d6 brabus upgrade kits turn up second hand on the likes of ebay

2 reasons.
1. The box is worth more stand-alone than on the car
2. Some people might not like a car that has the box fitted to it (so it reduces the resale value of the car or the # of potential buyers)

Ordered D6S for y GL350

I have been quoted 2k all in to fit to my forthcoing GL. I have subsequently ordered it but will check on the firmware version with Brabus. Thanks for the tips!

Good luck with it. I have to say that 3 years after fitting mine, and 45k miles, I am very happy and no regrets. Would do again.
