Hi whats the mpg between these two?

How quite is the c350 cdi compared to the c250 cdi

is 40 mpg acheivable on both?

I hear the 350 cgi gets good mpg too for a petrol v6

Cheers mark just looking for a class with good power a average or 40 mpg and a refined quite engine this is getting more confuseing by the day lol

I have owned a C350 cdi for 6 weeks now and I love it. My trip computer averages 43 mpg with a recent 36 mile rush hour journey giving me 50.4, the engine sounds great totally different to my mates 250 that as the diesel clatter. My background is petrol hot hatches and if anyone had said 5 years ago I would own a diesel I would of laughed, but this engine is something else.

Wow my previous car did 20mpg this car seens to be twice as good on fuel ..

I don't think I said you could average 40mpg just that it was achievable.

Driving back from Bristol last night (about 200 miles) for the first part of the journey I averaged 49mpg based on the OBC but this was because all the way up the M5 traffic was a bit heavy so the average speed was around 60mph

As soon as I got off the motorway, that average soon dropped down to 44mpg.

But as an average? Well see my signature for the real numbers

So it would be right to say the c350 is in the middle? Good refinement good performance and good fuel economy

I get similar to Mark with a CLS. 40mpg is achievable but I don't get near that overall. You'd have to drive very very carefully and not enjoy the car at all. If you do that you may as well get a C200CDI!

If fuel economy is important to you then a 6 pot anything is not the right car for you.

Im more concerned about the refinement side tbh.. but 40 mpg is a bonus or high thirties

How many miles a year do you do?

Doing 18,000 miles a year at 30mpg in a petrol vs 40mpg in a diesel is approx. £10 a week in fuel.

Buying a new car you will loose approx. £150 a week in depreciation for the first 2 years, £110 a week for the next year, £100 a week for the fourth year etc. etc.

Buy the car you like I say.

It's really hard to come up with meaningful mpg figures as so much depends on where and how you drive. For example I get about 27-28 on my commute. On the same commute my C63 would do 14-15 and my 330d before 29. Yet you will see people post up fantastic numbers. If you are into that just buy a C220. On the other hand the C350 is seriously quick but drive I that way you will not get good mpg. The best I've had is 43.5 mpg on a 300 mile motorway run. Hope this helps :)

So around £7 a week between the 350 petrol and diesel then. Probably less then that in the real world.

The 'newer' 350 CDi with 265bhp, round town and on a run...
I actually got 57mpg on one journey.

Rond town with an average speed of 33mph?

My average speed round town is 8mph and the car sees 29mpg.
Round town can mean very different things.

However seeing an average of 70mph and 53mpg means that the newer 350cdi is getting around 25% more mpg wise I reckon.

If your average speed around town is 8mph, you might as well be on foot! ;)
