c350 cdi vs c350 cgi real world mpg????

I have the same difficulties thinking of a replacement for my CLS which I’ve had coming up to 8 years now. Despite now having a baby and the sloped rear making it difficult to get the little one in, a 4pot E estate doesn’t appeal at the moment when I currently have a silky smooth 292bhp 6 cyl petrol.

Maybe the facelift W213 next year when I think all the petrols will be mild hybrid and the performance should be closer to what I currently have, but I’d rather buy at 2-3 years old so could be a bit of a wait.

Maybe I should try the current e220d which by all accounts does an amazing performance vs economy job. E43 would be amazing but they are so pricey still and a bit too showy. A regular 6 cyl in basic SE trim would be my ideal. Oh and a bonnet star please.

If you love your V6 I think you'd be better off with a Euro 6 350 CDI. Sweet spot of grunt, smoothness, economy and ULEZ compliance.

Just realised I've had my C350 CDI for 3 years now. Longest I've ever owned a car. That must say something :D

90 MPH cruise = 42 MPG on my last longish journey. I normally hate the sound of diesels, but not this one !

Interesting thought. Surprisingly very few around in W213 estate/saloon guise unlike previous generations of E and a substantial premium £wise. Looking at the paper stats they offer around 25% more bhp but seem to drink 40% more fuel depending on usage.

Appreciate the power uplift in real life is likely to be higher due to more torques.

Surprised W213 350's are so rare. I always assumed that was the go-to engine for an E Class. I guess it's either the govt taxing people out of them or people doing the power to mpg calculation.

Personally, I'd always pay more for sound and smoothness. But then again I only do 4k in a normal year and 6k if I do a French driving holiday on top so the difference in the amount of fuel consumed isn't that much.
