C350e owners club

Anyone tune their 350e before ? I saw one in Ventura running company. It claim it can tune the car 0 to 100km or 0 to 62mph in under 5 sec. With 330ps n 700nm . Drool ... is there any dyno video to prove it?

It was covered earlier in this thread - surely you've had a quick look at the 3000 posts??

You could try about 6 months ago, or hope the owner is still on the forum rather than upside-down in a hedge...

Do you know that this modification can invalidate your warranty?
The system incorporates a (partially hidden) telemetry and the factory can check the ECU/EMU should any claim is made under the integrity/ functionality of the engine block!

I hope this helps ;-)

First long distance drive

10 months into ownership I finally did a long drive in the Merc and got around what I expected.

Got about 44.5 mpg average for the whole trip which was 500 miles in total, 250 there and 250 back.

Was of course a pleasure of a journey compared to anything i've had before.

I calculated that anything below 37mpg meant I would be paying for some of the travel cost to go to a customer site based on the government recommended mileage rates for our car....shame Mercedes couldn't have made the engine 2005cc then it would the next bracket! :D

I really like the cruise control, in my old car when going downhill it would allow the car to speed up but with the Merc is does regen and keeps you at the same speed, was very useful during the M6 average speed check bits.

I did have a tuning chip fitted about a year ago, it wasn't as straight forward as the common rail diesel chips that just plug in I'd used before so had it installed by Tdi-Tuning.co.uk

Although they advertised the kit as a quick install plug and play without a lot of technical knowledge required, it took them over an hour to install with two fitters working on it, they had to remove some of the hybrid parts to access the connections necessary and also use special tools.

Had it installed and to be honest it was fine, performance was definitely increased, they claim by about 40 BHP.

All was well until a week or so ago, had a red message telling me to stop the car due to cooling issues, coolant was in the red. When I slowed down a little the coolant returned to normalish but clearly things weren't right.

Took it to the dealer who said it was a meltdown in the 60 amp cable connection to the water pump and it would be replaced under warrantee.

Whenever my car when in for a service etc I'd remove the tuning chip and fit a small blanking cover over the connection, just to make sure it wasn't spotted.

They needed to replace part of the wiring loom which meant this needed ordering and to cut a long story short I had a phone call to tell me my car was all ready but then the service manager asked me if i'd had an aftermarket chip fitted as they found some extraneous wiring which they'd removed.

Think I had a close call really, they lectured me on the warrantee implications, (but were quite good about it), and suggested that if they'd found the extra wiring before MB had agreed to the work under the warrantee that I could have been faced with a huge bill.

Was the chip responsible for the meltdown?

I don't think so personally, the chip was fitted for over a year but of course that's not really relevant as MB have right on their side when it comes to deciding warrantee claims etc.

Think I had a close call and would advise against fitting mods, I won't be doing it again.

When using the App to send the data to your vehicle, you need to bear in mind that the GUI (Graphical User Interface) on your computer/ smart phone/ tablet etc shows the modified/entered data immediately. However, it takes a longer time for the data to be transferred to your vehicle's computer via air! Depending on the speed of the data connection to your car (which is determined by many factors, i.e. where it is parked, time of the day or network congestion), there would be a natural time lag between your data entry point and the vehicle's computer.
The practical solution is this:
When you enter data for peak/ off peak time or anything else, do NOT close your App for two minutes. Leave the app running or keep the screen that you are working on, open until the data is sent to the car and verified by the app.
Unfortunately the App doesn't show the process of Handshake and CRC between the two communicating devices and this is where most people have problem.
In one word: be patient!
This is not the best of the Apps but at least it works after a couple of minutes.
I hope this helps.

Back down to earth after the high point of actually getting the app to save my settings:
  1. My settings are not to charge between 8pm and 1am
  2. I plug in at 10pm
  3. The car immediately begins to charge
  4. I hear that MB have admitted it doesn't work at the moment

Hi there

I might be able to help if you share with us what exactly you are trying to achieve?
You probably know this: There are sequences and certain steps to follow in order to get the App to work. Example: Do you plug in first and run the App? Even locking and unlocking the car with the key fob must be taken into account when ordering a remote procedure via the infamous App!

Let me know what you require from the system and might have an answer ;)

Hi,

What I require is to be able to plug in when I go to bed and for charging to start no early than 1am so I use my economy 7 tariff.

This used to work with my off-peak set to 1am to 6am and a departure time set for the morning. It didn't matter whether I set the departure time before or after I plugged in, as soon as there's a departure time, the charging stopped until 1am.

You have made me realise that since MB customer services explained to me how to set the new multiple-period peak/off-peak settings, I've not been entering a departure time. Maybe that's because a setting that says "never charge at this time" suggests that a departure time isn't required. I'll check tonight.

I also note that Mercedes Me has just been down for scheduled maintenance. No idea why, but it's not out of the question that they're attempting to fix this.

Cheers!

Mercedes Me seems to have been down intermittently today, including now. Not going to be testing the effect of departure time setting tonight then...

Anyone else having trouble?

Had a call from my lease company on Friday to say my C350e will be delivered in a fortnight, can't wait. Just the standard sport saloon in Cavansite blue, ordered in December, I will miss the current E220 but looking forward to commuting on electric as it's only 5 miles each way.

No problem here! All connections and app services working normally as usual.

I can connect now, although my peak/off-peak settings have gone again.

They're reset and I've added a departure time, so I just need to plug in tonight to see whether the charging delays until my off-peak electricity kicks in. From what I hear, the odds are not good...

Glad to hear you are connected. Speaking of odds- I never had problem with the app. I charge on off-pick every night (01:00 to 05:00) and it starts and ends just right!
Perhaps I learnt my own way- or the system learnt my way of doing it?!
I connect the power plug to the car, let the car lock itself in 20 seconds- then go to my PC, call the app and select an end time (as the start time varies) and wait to receive confirmation then is all done- the car is ready and charged in the morning :D

The web app now remembers my off-peak settings.
When I set a departure time and plug in, the app tells me charging is paused. Yes!
But the charger and the car both indicate that the car is charging. Sigh.

I will try a different order next time...

Anyone had this email today? Charge your car to start charging a pound for all successful charges from may 1st ☹️.

So the last mass freebie network bites the dust?? I guess you have to make money somehow, but it doesn't represent good value for PHEVs. Considering the forecasts of high % of plug ins going forward, there needs to be a big step up in charger network installations

Cyc

£1 a charge kills the appeal stone dead. I'd be spending more than the value of the charge I bought.

At least it'll please the Nissan Leaf people who hated the PHEVs using "their" only source of locomotion........

Eurgh that's not good news, clearly meant to be like Polar Instant which charges £1.20 connection fee.

Guess Pod Point ones will follow next......

I used a CYC free point for the first time this month too!

Yeah the leaf owner will be happy. The industry really needs to step up, it's only Tesla who are producing decent range fully electrics, it's just like the iPhone drove the smartphone industry but either this time things are moving slower with other manufacturers or i'm less patient ;)

I think it's fair enough. Our cars don't fast charge, so there's no great benefit charging up whilst you grab a coffee for 15 mins.

Ah but what if you drive to a town to have dinner and arrive with no charge.

Before - Charge for free
After - Charge for £1

It's not a huge cost but nothin and paying something seem like such a world apart eh? ;)
