C350e owners club

Some have had issues with using the hold break. Apparently, the theory is there's material transfer from the pad to the disk. I only say this because you observe it's worse under light breaking.
Interesting point Nick.

I do use the hold brake in traffic. However I would have expected it to go away after a couple of motorway slowdowns.

My problem starts only at motorway speeds and will be there even after a 60mile journey.

That's the same with the vibration / harshness I've noticed. At first I thought it was because I was driving on a windy day and thought wind was catching on the wheel arches, but as you say, it's just motorway speeds.
I was also surprised that the suspension setting makes no difference to the vibration. I'm curious to know what happens at higher speed, but can't really test that, although I suspect it would be one of the lesser used excuses!

I know what it reminds me of, driving over those rumble strips on the outside of a motorway, but nothing like as bad.

So this morning

Dropped off C350e (4th time so far) this time the engineer wanted to come out for a test drive to feel the vibration him self.

While on the test drive he said he thought it might be the prop shaft (or differential) out of balance? They had a couple like this... Apparently.

Came back from the test drive, was given a C220d 4matic with 470miles on the clock.

On the way back home the battery warning came on.. (Stop vehicle with engine running) the warning was reading with a battery symbol. It was coming on and off so I thought that was that... After it had gone for the last time.

Mind you the E220d convertible I had as a previous courtesy car had the same warning coming on... But went away when I disabled the stop-start function.

I tried to start the car this afternoon and the car would not start!!! Dead battery...

I called Mercedes break down service and they are sending RAC...

I then received a call from RAC trying to make my recovery for tomorrow morning instead of tonight.

Well I was not pleased to say the least as tomorrow I need to be out by 7 with the car.

So they are coming tonight before 2300 hopefully...

Hopefully I will have a car for tomorrow as I don't like to use my 645 again tomorrow.

Am I jinxed or something?? Lol

Battery is dead as dodo... So tomorrow morning a recovery truck is coming to collect the courtesy car to take back to the dealership. I will be in the truck too and maybe they replace the battery and send me back with a new battery or a new courtesy car for the courtesy car of my car???

Hopeful if they've seen it before, but I wouldn't have thought the prop shaft or diff on a RWD car would cause vibration in the steering wheel and floor.
I also agree with a previous comment, why on earth don't they just swap your wheels with another car and see if that makes any difference on a test drive in case there is a problem with wheels, tyres etc.. I thought the normal principles of fixing things when you didn't know was wrong was to start with the cheapest possibilities first and swapping 4 wheels twice should be very cheap (maybe 30mins labour in total and that's it).

Jeddy, you are expecting too much!! Common sense is the first thing that is lost when these so called mechanics sit in a classroom for their half decent training courses! Believe me, I've taught technicians and engineers for years at university. Even the academic environment can't guaranty the use of common sense when it comes to trouble shooting and fault finding! Nowadays, we have OBD ports, laptops and Apps which are supposed to deliver data and provide information to the user. The common belief is that a dealer's technician is lost without his laptop and knows as much as your green grocer does- UNLESS proven otherwise! Salute to those real mechanics who are not of this wired breed.

LOL. I used to work as a computer programmer (sorry, software engineer - I know some don't like the former) until last year, maybe I should retrain as a car technician. Apparently I have both computer and engineering experience which should help! :P I've probably been watching too much Edd China and Fuzz Townshend, both of whom seem to know how to fix problems (although who knows what goes on behind the scenes).

After today's disaster of RAC failing to attend at the scheduled appointment of 7:30 and sent me a text that they would attend at 8:50...

I called the dealership they came and collected the courtesy car dropped of another courtesy car a C220d estate this time.

I received a call and they are expecting to hear back from Mercedes HQ about the prop shaft or diff balancing tools.

So would know more about tomorrow.

On another note I asked them if they swapped over the wheels from another car and they confirmed the vibrations were still there even with the new wheels.

So now I am baffled

I would be sceptical it might be a problem the electric motor or the mountings which effectively sits between the gearbox and the prop shaft

It might explain some of the gear shunts I had

Hi All - The fleet/lease company why work uses has been able to source me a new C350e, with proposed delivery in July. I'm obviously aware of everyone's delays, but have things settled recently, with no new orders being taken, or is this likely to get pushed out and out?

Also, does Apple Carplay work automatically upon connection of an iPhone via USB, or do I need to pay extra for an upgrade/accessory?

Thank you.

I'd probably (from experience) take the July date with a pinch of salt, unless there is a cancelled order half-made with exactly the same spec you've ordered. I hope its genuine, mate.

And I'd like to know the CarPlay/Android Auto situation too. I read somewhere that all 2018 cars were coming with both as standard.

If no one who has taken delivery recently can confirm....... I get my C350e tomorrow!!!!!!!

Thanks, I hope so too. I suspect it is a cancelled order, as it was only made available about a week ago, and as we know MB stopped taking orders in Jan/Feb time...

Blimey you've been having quite the troubles, I think you may have overtaken me in hassle now! The worst I had on a loan car was it nagging me to fill the screen wash. After the c220d estate last time, I have the a180d that i've had before.....no surprise that it's 1.5 diesel is a little underwhelming and is quite screamy at low speeds when you push it a bit, it doesn't seem a great pairing with the 7G-MATIC.....does easily do 55-60MPG though, so there's the silver lining! Waiting to hear an update on how the battery replacement is going...charge state has gone from 11% when I dropped it off to 8%.....sounds like they've moved it and that's about it.....productive 24 hours.....

Well not sure if I should be happy or sad.
I received an update with regards to the prop shaft balancing.
Apparently this is something is has to be done with Mercedes technicians and Mercedes tools they are not sure how soon this would be.
Maybe weeks or maybe a month.

On top of all that no-one can certainly say that this is the cause to the vibration of the steering wheel.

So they asked for the courtesy car back and my pick up our car.
Which of course I was not happy about.

So now also as they suggested one of the options is to give the car back and get another car. Or give the car back and get a full refund.

I am gutted and I need to think about this!
I have already spent money tinting the windows, registering the car with all the services etc...

If they are talking about a full refund that sounds very fair. I suspect the depreciation on the car is a lot more than what you've spent customising it.

Well I only had the car for 6 weeks and done 4000miles
Not much of depreciation there I bet.

Plus if we consider my losses having to go back and forth all the time and loss of business hours.
I think I lost more than them

Lol

On the plus side, I've got mine today and it drives lovely. (Sorry GreekCL)
