Yes, the key to me buying it wasn't really the economy, otherwise I would have bought a Golf GTE, it was the 300bhp sub 6 sec 0-60. But with the opportunity to get around town on (very) short journeys on electric. As it turns out my average over the last 9500 odd miles is about 65mpg (no idea how much electric used though, lots I expect!).

I've looked into this more.... it looks like the key reason it fails is that even though I purchased "vehicle setup" which included charging setting and range etc... that mercedes have now rejigged the packages and that now longer exists. Now there's something else and I no longer have the "battery range" and "charging stations" as part of my package. I'm speculating, but it appears that because these are missing (which i previously had) my off peak charging functionality no longer works.

Did you ever get any joy on reinstating the Battery Range/Charging status on MercedesMe? My C350e turned 3 today and after a conversation with the MercedesMe Support people, I was advised that I needed to renew the "Vehicle Set-up" package. I had specifically advised that I wanted access to the Charging Status, and was told that it was part of this package. Having paid the money; lots of other functions have been reactivated; but not the specific one I wanted.

I'm just wondering how you got on with this before I go into battle with M-B over it......

I have these activated:

Vehicle Set-Up
Live Traffic Information
Remote & Navigation Services

I can see the charging information and can start the pre entry climate from the phone app.

Mercedes me connect United Kingdom

Just went through this too - car turned 3 on the 16th. So far, I've only paid for the "Remote & Navigation Services" which re-enabled pre-entry climate control and one other thing I forget.... The 'Navigation" part of the package is the bit that shows charge stations on the map, but at point of purchase, it was showing as 'unavailable'. Not bothered TBH as I never charge the thing away from home.

Currently wondering if it's worth paying for the "Vehicle Setup" bundle to re-enable all the the other stuff. Leaning towards not doing it TBH, but the app looks pretty sparse without those functions. Well, it would be nice if it did actually look sparse by removing the stuff I don't have active....but of course, they'd never do that as it serves as a constant nag as it is. No doubt, MB would argue "it's a benefit to customers to make it easy for them to re-activate services they may want"

Have to say, this really is penny-pinching of the worst sort from MB I think. They have (choose) to have the infrastructure to support all of this for new cars, if the car is up to date on servicing it has Mobilo cover, so the emergency 'phone' is active. Does anyone know if the real emergency stuff (car calls for help in the event of a big shunt) works forever? Seems to me the additional costs to support other features must be pretty minimal?. A nice gesture would be to continue at least the basic vehicle functionality stuff for "free" if the car was under service contract or at the very least, up to date on servicing by MB. Given the price of servicing, they could throw in the MercedesMe stuff.

I wouldn't necessarily expect live traffic to be 'free', but then again, how much does it cost them?? (a genuine question by the way - may well be there is a per-user fee they have to pay???).

Any excuse or opportunity to monetise us.

£25 I spent this week and this is what I achieved. Worse thing is that I’m not driving fast at all. I have drivers behind me flashing me.

Personally, I think the c350e is a big con when it comes to economy. Should have got myself a vw Passat.View attachment 90736

Just reading through all your posts Sraj, re your poor economy; a thought strikes me (that I haven't seen commented on)........ On one of your posts about pre-heating; I seem to recall you mentioning that you "set the temperature at 23 degrees"; if this is what your climate is set at when you're driving the car, and if most of your journeys are short, I would say that most of your battery power is being used to heat the car rather than propel it - hence the poor economy. I know I preheated my car one day without it plugged in and was surprised to see the battery having dropped from 100% to 85% despite the car still not feeling very warm!

A trick I use if it's not too cold, and the journey is going to be short, is to switch the heating off and just put the heated seat on maximum - keeps me warm without taking too much power from the battery. If the trip is going to be longer (in excess of my battery range), I turn the heating off at the start of the journey (heated seat still on!) and run the ICE (by putting the car in "Sport" mode); then after a couple of minutes (to allow for the engine to warm up), I turn the heating on. This way it uses the engine heat to warm the cabin, rather than the battery. I've even monitored the the engine temperature (displayed from the "Service" Menu) to check that it doesn't drop too much when I switch back to Hybrid. Pleasingly; it does hold it's heat pretty well. Hope this helps.

So does yours show the charging status of the battery Chris-S?

As of the 17th, it doesn't via the app. Looks like this now:

Any of the 'not enabled' features trigger a link to the portal when selected so I can buy them....

Yes; that's what I'm getting. It's almost as if the charge status has been forgotten about because it's only relevant to the (relatively few) hybrids .

Sorry Chris-S; I was getting you confused with CaptainChaos - I see you haven't renewed any services. I have taken out the Vehicle Set-Up package which gives me some services, but seemingly not the Charge Status. My screen looked like yours before I added the subscription.

Hi guys,

I took my car to Mercedes Waltham Cross and they did a diagnostic checks. They didn’t wash my car, which wasn’t a big deal, but mentioned that I needed a new thermostat.

The cost of the thermostat is £838 inc vat and labour. They said it’s 3.5 hrs labour.

I’m not happy about this because I mentioned there was an issue with the thermostat at Mercedes Loughton and they didn’t seem to care.

I bought the car from a leasing company in August 2019. The mileage was 61788, 16 plate vehicle. The cost was £19000

When I drove off and entered the Motorway, the cruise control didn’t work. I booked an appointment with Mercedes Stratford and they told me that my rear discs were corroded and they wanted £202.80 for a diagnostic to investigate the cruise control fault. I explained this to the seller and he refused to pay because it was too expensive, so I took my car to a bmw specialist. The diagnostic was £60 and he told me that I needed a new thermostat because that fault kept coming back.

I told the seller this and he told me that’s incorrect and he decided to pay for a diagnostic with Mercedes. That’s when I took my car to Loughton.

I explained everything to the advisor and he didn’t care much. He told me there was nothing wrong with the thermostat, but needed a new radar sensor and bracket. The cost was £1035, which the seller refused to pay.

Sellee booked the car with SNAUTOHAUS and they were absolutely useless. They failed to repair the car and I wanted to return the car under the consumer rights. Seller refused to take the car back.

Anyway, Gem-tech fixed the car after one month and the seller was able to claim everything on his Warranty.

The issue now is the thermostat problem was still there when I bought the car and I don’t understand why no one wanted to sort this issue out.
Mercedes-Benz did a battery check and it’s running at 90%.

trying to upload pictures but keeps saying it’s too large

Mileage is 64381

Mercedes told me if I had warranty the thermostat would have covered it.

It’s going to take me at least a month before I can save that kind of money because I only earn £1200 after tax.

Mercedes also told me that the battery miles range on my car is between 11-14 miles, but that depends on heating, outside temperature and style of driving. He added that the c350e are not very economical at all.

That’s the latest on my car. Not sure what to do now because £837 is a lot of money, especially as I’ve only had the car for 4 months

Is anyone charging using the granny cable on the max setting and not getting red hot pins on the plug?

The second faceplate on my outdoor socket has now cracked from the heat and wondering whether it is undersized wiring or this is normal.

@Sraj a faulty stat can (and usually does) cause poor economy. They are typically designed to fail open these days, and if that’s true for our cars, then that really hurts warmup, which I can see as being particularly bad on a hybrid.

I don’t see why you should have to pay for it though, surely it’s covered by the warranty you got when buying the car?

Sorry to hear you’re having such a bad time with this one, it sounds like a bit of a dog TBH.

Only used the granny charger briefly before the Rolec got installed, and never at full power, but drawing the full 13A from a 3 pin socket for any length of time is always likely to be problematic unless the socket is top quality and in good order.

It isn’t likely to be the wiring at fault for the heat generation, assuming(!) the correct cable was used. Is it a spur or a ring by the way?

MK double sockets are good for an indefinite sustained 19A apparently, so maybe make sure you use MK brand?

I don’t know whether I had warranty on the car because I wasn’t given anything.

The standard warranty that’s given on used cars is 3 months and I’ve had the car for 4 months.

May trade the car in for something else. £837 is a lot of money

No worries.

I’d be interested in the result of that as I might renew the “remote services” pack and would be expecting HV battery charge state to be included.

3 months? Strewth, that’s poor on a car at that price. I don’t doubt I’m out of touch on that sort of thing, but I’d have wanted at least 6 months and would probably have made sure to get a year, even if I had to pay for it. Not very helpful for you at this point though of course :(

Maybe cut your losses and go for something cheaper to buy and run for now?

Just spoke to the leasing company and he told me the warranty has expired.

He sounded disappointed when he told me about the finance being paid off. Don’t know why.

The original agreement was with Motonova with an interest rate of 15% Apr. My credit score is poor and wasn’t able to get anything decent.

Asked someone to get me a personal loan at a cheaper rate and I’m paying £600 pm.

I was going to get a Mercedes warranty when I bought the car and that was £600 for a year. Then I was phoning around and was given £1200 for 3 years, but was worried about their reputation, so decided to leave it.

overall, changing the thermostat is going to cost me over £1000, including the £202.80 diagnostics.
