C36 - Low Spec?

I've checked the number plate and it does say its a "C-class 3.6" which would make it a C36.

Unusual that it has no leather, but then the original owner, might not have liked leather and preferred fabric instead - like myself.

Thats a very early model C36 AMG and if im correct the very early ones did not have leather as standard. Does look pretty standard apart from the AC and Cruise.

Me too, really not a fan of leather, but would never tell a seller that! Good mileage for a '95 and a nice looking car.

Apart from the fact that it wouldnt get 30mpg if it was being towed

I'm going to bid on it anyhow and if I win.. swap over the leather from my C280.. and flog my C280 sport without leather..

Badge on the back is in the wrong position , make sure you check for poorly repaired accident damage .... if they can't be bothered to put the badge back in the right place , what is the rest of the work like ...

Also , sellers that 'big up' cars ( eg , this chap says it has 300bhp but it doesn't ... ) worry me , as it can suggest that it has been ragged. The mileage is suspciously low as well , i would ask to see documentary evidence that it is correct ( unless it is DIRT cheap ) , when things go wrong on these , they are expensive ...

Heres the spec ...

A low spec model like that would make for an excellent track-day car surely? Take all the seats out and put a racing shell in, roll-cage, dump most of the interior, have the aircon disabled etc. Would be great! :D

Leem, he's in Cornwall too - are you gonna go see it?

shude, was gonna say the same thing, I think the rear ended E55 would be fast but a bit of a heavy hector for a track hack, this makes more sense, especially if the interior isnt great, your gonna bin it anyway, the only thing is cloth seats are a bin job, at least leather has aftermarket vale,

agree with the interior strip and air con disable, would also recomend a shorter belt so the pump isnt driven and take as much of it out as possible, you would be amazed what you can take out for a track hack, we did an Alfa at college for the Alfa only series, took a power hacksaw to the dash, most of the clocks - really went to town, it was quite fun!

however for real drivers how much use is a track hack with an auto box?

Fit gearbox and clutch from a C280.

and cut hole for pedal and another pedal box and the gearbox ECU will be linked to the engine ECU, or is it that easy? in which case I may be buying a rear ended E55 for a manual conversion!!!

The only reason I saw this is a friend converted an auto Punto to a manual and he said never again, it was soooooooo much grief,

Lee - don't forget to get an insurance quote!

What gearbox ECU? There's little electronic trickery in the pre-facelift c280 and c36, they're dinosaurs electronics-wise :)

If you put a c280 manual gearbox on an e55 it will be broken within minutes I'm sure. You need something a lot beefier.

would the C280 box take the C36 power anyway? i assume its the same box as i had on the E230 and it was rubbish!!!

merc engines and boxes - do they all have the same bolt pattern?
