c36 power 1st gear

hi, i have a 1995 c36 amg, i just changed the head gasket and the car has developed a problem.
when i accelerate(wot) from a stand still the car makes a strange noise like a big v8 and is quite slow. however this only happens in first gear, if i accelerate(wot) and the car shifts to second it makes the normal exhaust noise and speeds up quickly like it did before i changed the gasket. it also runs perfectly in 3rd and 4th. if i accelerate in 1st slowly(<50%wot) i can rev to 7k with no problems.

i replaced the upstream o2 sensor and marked the camshafts before i removed them.when i re-installed the cams i made sure the marks were perfect, could my problem be the vvt, i made sure it was fully retarded before install. i also marked the chain and after i reinstalled everything i spun the motor by hand 5-6 times and all the marks were good.

any help would be greatly appreciated and i can provide more info if necessary.

also my exhaust cam sprocket did not have a u marking but before i changed my head gasket the car did 0-60 in 6-6.2sec.

at 5 seconds you can hear the change in exhaust note, then it shifts to second full throttle and the exhaust note returns to normal.
