Car
Saab Aero(H.O.T)
had to sell my beloved c36 a while back due to the fact of hopefully making it to oz in the late summer....wasnt sustainable due to tax at nearly 1800euro a year and me still being classed in the "boy racer" insurance category...i will get another one hopefully!!

picked up a volvo s70 t5 at a bargain price, just needed a new lambda sensor...just wanted something cheap and fast to keep me going in the meantime..

i have to say WHAT a quick car....

if i was perfectly honest pickup is better than the c36 although the 36 still has the edge in pure oooomph and motorway speed...

easily had the volvo up to 145 the other day just had to slow down because it felt unnervy having a fwd at that speed...

maybe its just i was so used to automatic that the volvo manual has just taken me by surprise....

the car only had 98000 miles on it and i just jumped at it for the price...

does anyone on here have any experience of these cars??any help would be appreciated guys, thanks!!

i still am a true merc man in heart though and will get another amg in the future...

Great cars!

I used to have a Volvo 850 T5R (manual) and it was a great allrounder....I must admit that the understeer was at times entertaining and the midrange pulling power was immense....I had mine at 155mph on a few occasions

However it would murder a set of front Potenzas in 3000 miles

With a decent remap they can put out close to 300bhp, but bent rods are easy to achieve when over egging it!

(After the Volvo I had a Saab 95 Aero which was just as mad!)

I've had a C70 T5 and my advice would be just to enjoy it and don't chuck money at it (like I did) :)

What year is it ?

I've had S60 and V70 T5's and they have all been bullet proof, the cops don't use them for nothing:D If you think it,s quick now my last V70 T5 was remapped to 320 bhp and was a right autobahn stormer, limiter removed and away you went. It did 130k in 2 and a half years and never missed a beat awesome car and the main reason I have stuck with volvo as my daily driver my new V70 polestar remapped wagon is running around 250 bhp although it's a diesel

Great cars Volvo not as exciting or exclusive feel as a MB but just does everything it says on the tin and does it well.:thumb:

cheers guys....its a 2000...the last of that particular model i do believe....just wondering is a blow off valve an absolutely essential piece of equipment for the turbo in the engine or is it just hear say???...ive heard for and against arguments!!

flanaia1 (Ian) is yer man for that. All sorts of things go on (and off) under his bonnet.

If it still has a throttle cable do it only for noise (I would).

If it is 'ME7' fly by wire, don't touch it.

Hope this helps !

As you say there are for and against arguments, the only car of mine that has one on is my scooby rally car but only because it's a competition car and it maybe does have a benefit there.

The main point is that some people say pressurised air in the system when the throttle is closed causes premature turbo failure due to increased wear, we personally have never seen it.

I'm not convinced of the benefits on a road car unless you particularly like the noise :D Most of my car's have been remapped with no change to the manufacturers air intake arrangements other than a performance panel filter

I had a V70 T5 for a while - biggest issue was the carp gearbox, which never got sorted despite being replaced by Volvo. It was comfortable and fast, but suffered from front tyre wear and poor turning circle. I did understand that the blow-off valve was to prevent pipes from bursting and popping off, but other cars seem to manage without one - sounded good though!

I presume it was an auto then? which are renowned for chewing through gearboxes on the high performance Volvo's. Manual is the only option on these cars which are then fairly bullet proof but I agree auto boxes have never been Volvo's strong point, nor MB's for that matter :D

absolutely right flanaia....my friend got a 1999 s80 t6 with only 65000 miles on the clock....

automatic gearbox failed after 4500 miles...apparently they are the worst trans ever put in a modern car, they simply could not handle the torque...

i wont tempt fate but so far the manual is a joy to work....while first gear can be a hit or miss with regards to power delivery,2nd gear pull is immense....

i was going to buy my third c230 kompressor but to be honest the whole leaking head gasket issue is something i got sick of....

apparently they are far more reliable than the saab aero engines what you think??

Is that a common problem on the W202 C230k? I had two with no problems like that. Both had cracked exhaust manifolds mind.

these volvo engines are i mean not the c230's

they leak in exactly the same place caused by the vibration of the alternator, alot of people think there is no leak but it was my friend who pointed it out to me......

he is an avid w202 collector and he says he hasnt seen a w202 which hasnt been affected at some stage...its such a shame really because they are lovely cars

One of mine did about 160k and the other 210ish, if they did have a leak it did not present itself in a detrimental way, what's it supposed to do?

yes it is not something i would be too worried about....its only when you get to the stage where you are losing too much oil or water that problems can occur....

it was something that just always made me uncomfortable when driving the car hard, knowing that there was a weak point somewhere in the engine....

my c36 had the same gasket issue but with the timing chain and the general build quality of the engine,my worries were lessened

Yep, I did this to my Aero.....

Yes, it was the auto box. It wasn't chewing anything up, but would regularly drop into 'neutral' on a right hand corner, just when you least expected it. I think it was some sort of design fault, as a (allegedly) new replacement acted exactly the same. Never did it on a left hand corner though!

Thanks for the advice!...i have noticed on one or 2 occassions turbo stall,i was in 4th gear and I think i applied the boost too late up the rev range at a high speed....got a right fright!!!hasnt happened since but i guess its a warning from the car: DO NOT ABUSE ME I AM NOT A HONDA CIVIC :D !!...i constantly check for the white smoke, whining noise and power delivery but everything seems ok,i think im being a tad paranoid but have you experienced this sometimes with your cars??cheers!
