Hi Guys,

after looking at diesel cars I'm thinking I might buy a cheap intersting petrol car for the time being as I'd like to have one before it becomes too expensive to do so!

The car inquestion is below. Any comments? I've done a few searches and seen that some prefer the 4 speed gearbox over the 5. The facelift console seems nice, but I'm not bothered with the pre-facelift. The car was serviced at MB untill the last service, adn with only two owners it seems quite a good example. The colour wouldn't be my first choice but otherwise it seems a pretty good car. I'm aware of the running costs for AMG cars, but hopefully it should be less than the C43, which seem to be dropping in price, but not dropping as much as the C32's. After a while you can end up going far too quickly from looking at a C36's at 3-4k to looking at C32's at 8-10k! So I've decided to stick with the C36.

Thanks.

looks like a clean car, to avoid big bills make sure you check at least the following

- gearbox changes are clean, and no GB leaks
- head gasket oil leaks are common.
- ac works!
- make sure cat does not rattle
- rust on arches and bootlid ( you can live with this tho if its not too bad)
- clunks on full lock (wishbone bushes)
-MAS is another common thing to go (accelleration lag, lumpy idle) esp if a k&n is fitted.

thats it really, C36 will be cheaper on consumables than a c43/32, as it uses e-class\SL parts in most cases. If in doubt try and find a couple to test drive and see to use as comparison.

good fun car to drive, good luck!

Thanks for the checklist. Trying to find decent examples to test drive is a problem! Alos, quite a few owners seem to think they are future classics and as such should already carry a premium.

Looks can be deceiving ,make sure you go through the check list
ps. If you know of a good clean C32 AMG , please let me know

Cheers

Thanks to everyone who replied about the car, went to see it yesterday and bought it! :)

Then drove ~370 miles to Scotland, it never missed a beat.

Congrats on the purchase.

Now post some pics :D

Well done mate wish you happy motoring with it.

Hi,
Hope you enjoy your AMG as much as I have mine.

Wow, great value for money..

Does it still drive like a new car? No wierd noise/knocks etc?

I think the suspension will probably need looking at, a bit soft in the corners, getting the gearbox oil changed to be safe. I always figured any car I bought and no matter how much I spent would need some work doing on it.

Otherwise very nice, it's really growing on me, wafting alon, I put my foot down and off it goes! Love the engine note as well. It feels nice and solid, no noises, just some squeaks from the trim because the previous owner got it valeted so everything is too shiny! For the money it really is hard to beat. I've test driven plenty of other cars and apart from the condition of the trim inside due to the age I still wouldn't buy any standard euro/japanese car, even if I wanted to spend double the money. It still pulls well, turns well and you know if you need to you it will go very quickly. Best of all, you get the feeling that if you look after it it will go on forever. Last of all, you are unlikely to see another one on the road every 5 minutes :)
