And knowing Dronsfields they will happily sell you that passenger side wing mirror.

But as they normally like to sell mirrors in pairs, only if you buy the boot lid..

Was that fire and if it is, will the leather not stink of soot?

It says there was fire damage to the back of the car, and I assume yes the seats will stink of smoke. It says that there is damage to the back of the rear headrests but it will be "invisible" when fitted. Presumably when there is nobody sitting in the back and the headrests are down.

All the seats will need a good clean and the rear headrests would need to be re-trimmed for a good finesh

That interior will absolutely stink !

the back seats are ruined, burnt on the back head rest and armrest are charred!

I have NO idea just how good modern day cleaning fluids are, but in my experience fire damaged interiors can clean up and look like new. BUT................ The fumes gets impregnated into the padding, cushions etc and is practically impossible to get rid of? Just look at the soot on the inside of the front windscreeen! I suppose if someone is a heavy smoker then they might not notice the smell, but otherwise forget it.

How much would it cost to have the seats completely re-upholstered?

I bought my facelift rear clusters off them for my last W202, they were expensive and arrived completely clovered in oil! - I mean completely dripping :(

But for the bits that they're selling, from the stealer the sill covers cost 500 quid and the front bumper about 600 to 700.

Is it not worth the bother then based on their service?

I've bid on and "won" a few things from them and had no trouble at all. Items as described and delivered quickly.

Maybe I was just lucky but I'd have no reason not to buy from them again.

£160 already - that interior is simply not worth it :/

I wonder what caused the fire in the boot, electrical fault with the battery connections etc?

And in fairness to Dronsfields, they are probably OK for some stuff, I used them a while back when I needed a fuel pump relay and an exhaust manifold for the 2.3-16 I had, no problems with those items and they were the best prices around - manifold cost me £95 and they were over £1100 from the dealer!

Items subject to wear and tear, eg trim or body panels might be more risky, as with several breakers

Tsk, Dronsfields, say no more  They sold me a really bad engine once. I returned it as it was not fit for use. Took 3 months and a number of abusive phone calls before I got reimbursed. The abusive calls were from them, not the sort of professional approach to customer care you expect.

This is not the first time i have seen a rear back side fire on a W202. For any members that remember there was a C36 AMG that was a victim of a similar fire in the boot. Its most probably caused by battery issues or dodgy wiring for things like amps and subwoofers as it has happened before

And exploding Batteries - Mine blew up in my old W202
