How about the Europe only 2000 CLK55 with an M113 producing 342bhp ? slightly down on the quoted 367bhp on the same engine in later cars....just askin'

The M113 5.4L is a 5.4 L (5,439 cc) version with the same 97 mm (3.82 in) bore as the M113 5.0 but with a longer 92 mm (3.62 in) stroke developed by Mercedes-AMG. These cars were the first to carry the 55 AMG title. Power output is 342 to 362 hp (347 to 367 PS; 255 to 270 kW) at 5,500 rpm with 510 to 530 N⋅m (376 to 391 lb⋅ft) of torque at 2,800–5,400 rpm. Many popular tuners such as Kleemann USA, Amg Affalterbach developed supercharger systems for this model, mirroring the later M113K design. 396 hp (401 PS; 295 kW) at 5,750 rpm and 520 N⋅m (384 lb⋅ft) at 3,750 rpm of torque in the SLK55 AMG Black Series.

Applications:

I am aware that a 5.4 M113 is a stroked M113 5.0 but does that alone make it an AMG ? As I said the 2000 CLK had a stroked 5.0 M113 that made it a 5.4, but one that puts out 342bhp as apposed to 362 bhp of the same (but AMG) stroked M113 5.0.

It's either a 5.4 M113 that puts out 342bhp OR a 5.4 M113 that puts out 362bhp..it can not be both.

Later cars had slightly more power from the same engine.
All CLK55's are AMG.

That's interesting. The Celtic Tuning remap on my SLK 55 is claimed to give 395 bhp (a little less), but 420 lb.ft. torque (significantly more) than the factory Black Series. Can anybody hazard a guess as to how two such disparate figures could be achieved on the same engine (other than the other kind of BS - not standing for "Black Series")?

The 5.4 M113 is an AMG unit. CLK-wise first used in the 208 (I had one ) then carried through to the 209.

The slight increase in power will be due to some technical modifications (eg, mechanical cooling fan vs. electric fans on the later cars), and possibly different ECU software etc. This isn’t unusual, several AMG engine units are produced with the same components and the power outputs can be varied as required or as they are developed over the years.

Same engine though!

I did read somewhere that W208 CLK55's where de tuned because as standard they were faster than W210 E55's and Mercedes couldn't justify charging more for a W210 that was slower than a W208.

There were a few clk500s with the 5.5 later non amg engine right at the end of the run I believe. Optimistic price for such a high mileage converted, smashed up car. You are almost in half decent e55k territory there and I know which I would choose.

According to Total Car Check it's currently declared SORN so shouldn't be a daily driver. Also it's still registered as a 4266cc so logbook probably not updated to reflect change in engine size.

Can’t see that being the case when the equivalent S55/CL55 would have been more expensive and slower than both of those! :)

There’s literally nothing in it (5kW/7hp). And both have the same engine (including viscous fan etc). I doubt that makes a great deal of difference considering the weight of them both. Perhaps the 210 chassis allows for slightly better exhaust design? Either way the small difference in rated output can’t be down to the retail price of the cars and they weren’t exactly in competition with each other anyway. E55 was a 4-door saloon, CLK55 a 2-door coupe :thumb:

Yes, on late facelift 209s, but not with M113 engines though :)

Looks a bit tired IMO & a cat D but still....

Abb you already own one of the best C43's in the country don't tell me you're looking for another project car now you've finished yours!

BTW I hope you manage to put the AMG bootlid badge on straighter than whoever put that one back on. It looks like Stevie Wonder had a go at it!

And in certain markets were badged CLK550 !!

Not a chance on me taking on another project! :D
